Hair Loss and Reflexology

Hair Loss and Reflexology

What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a complimentary therapy whose principles are based on the reflexive action of organs, tissues, glands and other body parts. The practice sees the body as divided into ten different zones represented across the ears, feet and hands. These zones contain specific acupressure points that correlate to different parts of the body. When these points are stimulated by pressure that may increase blood circulation, nutrient absorption, nerve impulses and energy in that particular zone. As a result, any tension or stress upon the area is relieved, allowing for a natural healing process to take place within the body. Reflexology is considered an effective hair loss treatment.

Hair Loss and its Causes

Hair loss, or baldness in its extreme, is the medical term used to describe inexplicable hair loss from the head and body. When hair loss is permanent, it is normally an issue of genetics in which the person has inherited the condition. On the other hand, temporary hair loss may be the result of illness, diet deficiencies, stress, hormones and fatigue, all of whose symptoms may be alleviated with reflexology.

How Does Reflexology Prevent Hair Loss?

A reflexologist will aim to restore equilibrium in the body, and consequently encourage a natural healing process to take place on the scalp, stimulating hair growth.

Reflexologists also work to stimulate certain acupressure points on the ears, feet and hands to reconcile energetic imbalances that may be causing hair loss or preventing hair growth.

Reflexology Can Lower Stress Levels Responsible for Hair Loss

Stress is a well-known cause for temporary hair loss. Reflexology can help combat the hair loss by reducing the physical effects of stress on the body. It does so by:

  • Promoting feelings of deep relaxation in the body
  • Relieving muscle tension
  • Improving lymphatic drainage
  • Improving venous circulation
  • Stimulating nerve pathways
  • Stimulating the release of the body’s natural feel-good hormones - endorphins.

Reflexology Points That Promote Hair Growth

When pressure is applied to most reflexology acupressure points, internal organs are stimulated resulting in increased blood circulation throughout the body.

The points under the finger nail beds are strongly associated with scalp health and hair growth, as the nerve endings underneath each fingernail are said to be connected directly to the roots of your hair. When pressure is applied to the nail beds, circulation of blood and energy to the scalp is increased. This allows the hair roots to be replenished with nutrition, strengthening the hair follicles allowing hair to grow.

If you would like more information on how reflexology may assist with hair loss, speak to your local, qualified reflexologist.
