Treatments
Relaxation Massage
As our lives become more demanding, complex and stressful, massage has become a necessity rather than a luxury.
Regular massage promotes deeper and more restful sleep at night and produces greater energy during the day. There are also benefits for circulation and improvements in the efficiency of the lymphatic system, which helps rid the body of toxins and dissolve general sluggishness.
Swedish Massage
Swedish massage is a gentle form of massage using five principal massage techniques: effleurage (sliding or gliding), petrissage (kneading), tapotement (rhythmic tapping), friction (cross fibre) and vibration/shaking.
Remedial Massage
Remedial massage is probably the most popular form of massage therapy in Australia and focuses on the treatment of soft tissue injuries, aching muscles and postural imbalances using a variety of techniques. These specialised techniques locate and repair damage and support and speed up the body's own repair mechanisms.
This holistic approach heals both the cause and the symptoms of the the disorder.
Trigger Point Massage
Trigger points represent small areas of tightness within muscles, creating tight bands and knots from the contracted muscle fibers.
These trigger points cause discomfort and frequently refer pain to other areas of the body. Active trigger points can also limit the range of motion, create muscle weakness, and numbness or tingling.
Myofascial Release
Myofascial release is a slow and subtle technique to release tension from the fibrous bands that surround the muscles, bones, nerves and joints. Its aim is to unblock any scar tissue or adhesions that have occurred due to injury in the muscles and surrounding tissues, by stretching, loosening, softening and lengthening the muscle.
The strokes used are in the direction of the muscle fibres to encourage the muscles to lengthen and at times they may be held for approximately two mintues in order for the technique to have its full effect on the muscle.
Sports Massage
Sports massage was originally developed to help athletes prepare their bodies for optimal performance, recover after a big event, or function well during training. Sports massage emphasizes prevention and healing of injuries to the muscles and tendons.
A sports massage is a good choice if you have a specific problem - a frozen shoulder or pulled hamstring, for instance. The therapist generally focuses on the problem area to releive pain and promote healing.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture takes an holistic approach to understanding disease processes and focuses as much on the prevention of illness as on the treatment. In the real world of clinical practice, acupuncture and its application is being constantly refined with much ongoing research and clinical experience.
Today, acupuncture is an effective, natural and increasingly popular form of health care. It is formally recognised by the World Health Organisation as being an effective and legitimate form of health care.
