What to expect from a consultation?
The first initial consultation will last just over an hour and during this time a detailed case history is taken and analyzed. This includes an exploration of current and past health conditions, as well as diet, lifestyle, stress and environmental factors.
Nicola will also ask to look at your tongue and take your pulse. This is very common in Traditional Chinese Medicine as this is one of the main tools used in diagnosing a condition.
Following the initial diagnosis, Nicola will then start the acupuncture treatment, and an explanation of the diagnosis and a treatment plan is devised. The acupuncture treatment is designed for you to spend the time in a deep relaxed state, thinking of nothing, and listening to soft meditative music of your choice. Aromatherapy oils fill the air and a lovely heat lamp and heated towels will make sure you are kept warm and cosy.
Follow up sessions are usually just under an hour.
Nicola has a full range of products available in the clinic. These mostly consist of the herbal granules which are made up specifically for your needs on the day of your treatment, or given to you in patent (pill) form. The herbal medicine provides a wonderful synergy to the acupuncture sessions, especially if you have a more complex condition. Other products to enhance your treatment and experience are available from the clinic.

What Is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a very ancient practice of eastern medicine which involves very fine needles being inserted into the body as a means of harmonizing and circulating energy through the body to aid the natural healing progression.
The basic belief of acupuncture is that it is a preventative medicine. Acupuncturists treat the cause of the problem or disease rather than just the symptoms. We look at the body as a whole entity and not just pieces of our body which cause us pain and discomfort.
The main concept behind Acupuncture is an energy force called Qi. Qi circulates throughout the body along specialized pathways called Meridians or channels On every channel are Acupuncture points which relate to our organs in the body. These points all have specific functions to move and direct the qi to generate healing. It is believed that free flowing of the Qi keeps a person healthy.
If the flow of the Qi is blocked or not circulating properly, thats when illness will occur. Acupuncture restores and maintains balance in the body promoting good health and a pain free life.
