Your body has 206 bones, 639 muscles, 900 ligaments all connected with over 94km of nerves....so its not surprising that your body needs a helping hand to keep it balanced!

Shellharbour City General Practice Chiropractor, Adam Wild, aims to treat the cause of your ailment in a way that is gentle, safe and effective for people of all ages. Adam believes that his treatment should:
  • Work fast
  • Be cost effective
  • Include appropriate communication with your GP

Chiropractic is a health profession that is concerned with the Diagnosis, Treatment, and Prevention of disorders of the Musculoskeletal System- Especially complex conditions relating to the spine: e.g Sciatica, Chronic spinal pain, Headache

Adam Wild treats all his patients with respect. His Multimodal Treatment approach includes:
  • Massage
  • Manipulation
  • Rehabilitation programs and home care advice
  • Musculoskeletal Acupuncture
  • Customised Orthotic Fittings

No muscle or joint can work in isolation. For example, you can not grab something without first stabilizing your spine and then moving your elbow and shoulder to position your hand. This is why I look at the body as a functional unit and not just at the painful site. Patients often report that I’ am very thorough. The use of massage/myotherapies for muscle/soft tissue complaints, rehabilitation on control issues and mobilisation/manipulation for joint and spinal dysfunction ensures that the correct treatment protocol is used and to achieve the best possible outcomes for my patients

Adam Wild has been working at Macquarie University tutoring Chiropractic skills, treating and rehabilitation advice for weight lifters of the NSW Institute of Sport and Australian head Olympic coach for Olympic weight lifting; Luke Borreggine. He has worked with GP's, other Chiropractors and physiotherapists in Sydney, Dapto, Albion Park and now is practicing at Shellharbour City General Practice.

Massage:

A gentle, hands on approach that aims to relax tense muscle tissue, reduce pain, and aid in tissue healing (1). During the massage Adam will use a lubricant (usually oil) on the skin, and apply gentle to firm pressure to areas needed to be treated within the muscular system. The effect of this is to increase blood supply (seen as redness) which rids toxins and increases available oxygen to speed up tissue healing.

Manipulation:

Is a safe and effective (2) way to treat more complex neuromusculoskeletal conditions such as chronic low back pain, sciatica, and headache. Put simply, spinal manipulative therapy engages our nervous system that is involved with motor control (how we move), pain processing (how we feel pain) and pliability of support structures (function of our muscles, tendons and ligiaments) to allow us to move and work properly. Your body has 206 bones, 639 muscles, 900 ligaments all connected with over 94km of nerves....so its not surprising that your body needs a helping hand to keep it balanced!

Rehabilitation programs and home care advice:

Refers to self care strategies that my patients are encouraged to do to look after themselves when not in my clinic. Rehabilitation exercises aim to increase the fitness and strength of stabilisation muscles that have not done their job when an injury occurs. Home care advice is designed to make the beneficial effects of my treatment to last longer!

Musculoskeletal Acupuncture:

Unlike traditional acupuncture, Musculoskeletal Acupuncture utilises modern day physiological and neurophysiological theories in its applications (3). Basically the hyperdermic needles are inserted area’s to; turn down overactive muscle, turn on underactive muscle, reduce pain and increase blood flow (speeds up healing!). Musculoskeletal Acupuncture is safe, effective and not painful.

Customised Orthotic Fittings:

As we have concreted our environment since the industrial age, our feet are no longer exposed to a soft and changing ground; what our feet are designed to walk on. As a result many people develop ‘pes planus’ (flat foot) which changes the way that load transfers from the feet up to the low back! So, Orthotics are designed to change the environment to suit YOUR FEET, and to stop our feet changing for our environment! Common symptoms of flat foot include:
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Toe pain (especially in high heels or thongs)
  • Achillie’s tendon problems
  • Knee, hip and low back pain

Orthortic prescriptions are custom made and only prescribed to those who need them.
