  • Neurological conditions: headaches and migraines, sciatica, paralysis.

  • Respiratory conditions: common coughs and colds, hayfever, asthma.

  • Gastrointestinal conditions: vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, irritable bowel syndrome.

  • Urogenital conditions: urinary incontinence, prolapse.

  • Female health concerns: painful or irregular periods, menopause, pregnancy, fertility.

  • Children’s health.

  • Weight loss.

  • Mental and emotional conditions: insomnia, anxiety, depression.

  • Addictions: smoking, drugs, alcohol.

  • Stress and fatigue.

  • And to enhance general well-being.

In fact, acupuncture is commonly used in preventative medicine as well (see further below).

What does acupuncture involve?

Acupuncture involves inserting hair-fine needles into the body’s meridians or channels, to tap into the body’s Life Force Energy or Qi (pronounced “chee”). Using the needles, this Qi can then be regulated to help bring the body back into harmony.

What does each consultation involve?

In the initial consultation, a health history will be taken and MANY questions will be asked. Possibly, some range of movement tests may be done (particularly for musculoskeletal problems) and/or palpation (examination by touch) of any affected areas. Tongue and pulse analysis is also completed. A diagnosis is done by the TCM practitioner and a treatment plan is outlined, based on this diagnosis. Then the actual treatment follows.

With the follow-up consultations, they basically continue using the same format as the initial consultation but with less detailed health history taken (which has already been done in the initial consultation). Therefore, the follow-up usually takes a shorter time.

Approx. Visit Times:
Initial visit: 60 mins.
Follow up visit: 30 to 45 mins.
Treatment is included in each of my consultations.

What does each treatment involve?

Treatment mainly involves the insertion of needles into the body and additional techniques (eg. moxibustion, cupping, guasha (spooning), etc) may be incorporated into the treatment, depending on the condition being treated, the diagnosis arrived at and the client’s constitution. Lifestyle advice is also given.

How many treatments are required?

In most cases, more than one treatment is required to build upon and get the best combination of therapeutic effects, hence, better results.

As everyone is different and presents with different complaints, the actual number of treatments will vary and will be dependent on such factors as the response to each treatment; what the actual complaint is, the duration and severity of the client’s problem (prior to the first treatment); client’s age and constitution; and client’s lifestyle/dietary factors (which may be helping/hindering recovery). These will all influence the desired outcome and recovery times.

Do I already need to feel unwell before I have acupuncture?

No. In fact acupuncture is better utilised as a preventative measure. For example, building up your immune system before seasonal changes occur.

Even after having a number of treatments to address your condition, it is always better to have occasional “booster” or maintenance treatments to ensure that the problem stays away.

Preventative medicine is certainly one area that I am passionate about encouraging others to pursue. So please don’t wait until you’re feeling completely “under the weather”. If you’re uncertain of whether acupuncture can help you, give me a call today and I’ll be happy to answer any queries you might have.

As acupuncture is natural and holistic, every treatment is tailor-made for each individual.
