Nutrition
It is so obvious that what we eat must influence our health, but this is an issue which is largely ignored in modern medicine. Your genetic make-up cannot be changed, but the expression of your genes can be changed but nutritional 'engineering'. A familial tendency to hypertension can be influenced by good nutrition to prevent it becoming a problem, for example.
Nutrition is also just biochemistry: certain nutrients will have certain effect on the chemicals of oru body and its function. This is such a simple outlook but so logical and obvious. Sarah uses nutrition to ensure you are eating to sustain yourself and your needs, which are different for each person, however she will ensure that the pleasure remains in eating. When people are put on some of the fad diets recommended lately, they not only do not get much benefit but they also lose the pleasure of food. The best recommendations are those that keep the pleasure and maximise the benefit!
Sarah's Honours thesis was a clinical trial using a particular form of folate for children with Down syndrome. Because of their particular genetic make-up, there was a particular need for this nutrient. This idea of filling the needs of each different person is her particular speciality. She recently updated her qualifications with a Masters degree, completed in 2009.
Herbal Medicine The first medicine!
Herbal medicine is amazing: There are so many pharmaceutical drugs which are based on or copied from herbs. In Germany herbs are prescribed by doctors and for some conditions they are the first choice of medication. In Australia we are not in this position but Sarah is fully trained in herbal medicine. She is currently completing a postgraduate degree in medical herbalism.
Herbs should be given by a qualified herbalist as there can be interactions with pharmaceutical drugs. Dosage is also important: if the dose is incorrect it can either not work at all, or cause problems. Some herbs are very strong, but the advantage is that a herbalist can make up a mixture specifically for you, tailored to your needs. There are herbs effective for liver problems, for hormonal problems such as PMT, menopause, prostate. There are herbs which support cancer treatments, there are herbs which lower blood pressure and cholesterol. Why take strong drugs which usually have side-effects when you could be taking a herbal mixture? It should be noted that Sarah would never take you off any medication which a doctor has give you, she would refer you back to your doctor for a review of the medication.

"I came back from overseas with such stomach problems. I saw so many specialists and still felt bloated and just yuk. Sarah listened to me and gave me herbs and something else and I feel human again".
Children
Sarah loves seeing children and helping their mothers. As a mother herself Sarah knows how hard it is to feed a family on nutritious food that is tasty and acceptable to those fussy eaters, without making mum's life a misery. The best nutrition for your child's mind is so important. There is a growing realisation that the mind is influenced by what goes into the mouth. The brain is not separate from the body and substances which might have a negative influence on physical health is likely to have a negative effect on mental and emotional health. There is a distinct lack of research in this area as food manufacturers do not want to see the damaging effects on the many additives, chemicals and generl 'rubbishing' of good food.
Allergies
There is an enormous increase in allergies in recent years. It is being found that allergic reaction is the base of many health problems, but sometimes it is hard to get to the actual cause. Sarah is experienced in this area and can not only help find the actual allergy but also help the parent with suggestions for a balanced diet once the allergic food is discovered.
Weight Loss
Sarah uses Bio-Impedance Analysis to help drop the kilos off. This is a great help as it gives all the details on muscle mass, fat percentage, and helps keep the motivation up. She will usually offer a specialised programme, different for each client, not just a fad diet which will take off a few kilos which will then come right back again. Her main aim is to help her clients lose the weight in a way that is sustainable and lasting.
