SERVICES What is Myotherapy?
Myotherapy is the assessment, treatment and management of acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions.
Myotherapy can be used to treat a wide range of conditions, from sporting or occupational injuries to postural conditions and chronic neuromuscular disorders, whilst also helping to prevent injury.
A feature of Myotherapy is the clinical reasoning used, methods of evaluation are used such as postural assessment, orthopaedic tests, neurological and functional testing. Along with a thorough palpatory assessment of the spine, peripheral joint play, and the evaluation of musculature around the problem area.
How does Myotherapy work?
Myotherapy works by assessing your posture and range of movement so we are able to adjust the length-tension relationship of the musculature of corresponding tissue.
We correct postural alignment issues and rehabilitate injuries by using soft tissue manipulation, passive muscle stretching, and various myofacial release techniques.
By correcting the length tension relationships, we realign the body or individual joint. This reduces / eradicates muscular overload, minimises impact, prevents tears / fibrosis and allows recovery from past / present injuries and postural deviations.
Myotherapy also works is in eliminating “trigger points”. A Trigger point is an irritable area in a muscle which has been exacerbated by injury, overuse, poor posture and many more. This can in turn cause an imbalance within the muscle and the referral of pain
We then provide corrective exercises and stretches to promote self help in combating the negative effects (forces) of your daily life. This will allow you to reside in the natural state of ‘correct posture’.
