Hatha Yoga / Yoga Therapy, Pilates, Craniosacral Work

Welcome to Anishka Yoga

Hatha Yoga / Yoga Therapy, Pilates, Craniosacral Work...

Style of Teaching

My style of teaching and therapy depend upon the makeup of the group or individual.

I like to teach smaller groups so the focus is on the individual students. I see yoga as an exploration into ‘who I am at that time’ and what do I need from my practice on that very day. My influences and trainings come from Desikachar, Iyengar, Donna Farhi and Judith Lasater. My style is very eclectic and free form. I have been a registered nurse for 17 years and trained in yoga therapy and Pilates.

Class Descriptions

ALIGN AND FLOW
A blend of traditional asana postures into a series of strengthening and aligning sequences which are both static and flowing. We move with the breath and focus in all posturing. Often the classes will be themed to heighten the awareness of particular areas in the body. All classes include some core work to ensure we are gaining strength for longer held balance and inverted postures.

WOMEN’S YOGA
Yoga was originally developed by men for men. Womens’ bodies are different – for a start we have more curves. Our hips are different - wider and less stable. We are not warriors but more about connection, love and intimacy. We are juicy and sensual and the nurturers of the Earth. Therefore our yoga practice is about sensing and feeling, finding our roots in the pelvis. We want to encourage our feminine self to flower not close into an analytical mind which is continually stuck in the head. We can leave that to the men.

RESTORATIVE YOGA
Restorative Yoga is a gentle style of yoga where the body is fully supported in deep restful postures using props such as blankets, bolsters and walls. Simple breath work and gentle inversions will further encourage a calm mind and body. It is extremely useful for busy minds which simply won’t turn off. Beneficial for people recovering from illness or injury or those who simply want a slower calmer practice with a deep supported stretch.

OVER 40’S
For those who don’t want to keep up with a bunch of slim flexible young ones. We are at a different place in our live and in our life experience and these classes will reflect our needs. Focus will be on strengthening with more attention to detail of our physiology and energy movement. In contrast restorative longer held postures will be interspersed to deepen the experience and release the strengthening postures.

YOGA THERAPY
One-on-one sessions developing an individual practice for those with chronic conditions such as stress or past injuries or just want some individual attention in aligning/ strengthening or flexibility practice.
