Ann Darcy

About Ann

Ann sees clients from her home based clinic when she is not travelling around Australia teaching. She can offer health rebates from most Health Funds.

After discussing each clients needs, Ann tailors a treatment plan for them utilising her many years of experience and selecting the modalities that best suit the individual on the day.

Ann first learnt massage in 1989 and since then has constantly been adding to her tools of the trade by learning many other versions of massage and related modalities.

Over the years Ann's outlook on massage has changed from techniques where you treat the symptom to ones that work with the bodies own innate 'computer' to find the cause of the problem and as such resolve the symptoms either forever or for longer time frames than symptom only based work. Ann herself has benefitted greatly from these more gentle modalities especially in relation to her posture.

What sort of Hormonal problems can Ann's treatment help with?

The treatment works equally well on men as women.

Women can benefit from problems with
*periods including pain, heavy bleeding, clotting or irregularity
*infertility even after trying IVF
*menopause symptoms like hot flushes, mood swings, depression
*easier natural birth process
*painful intercourse from having a dry vagina or after giving birth
*loss of libido

Men can benefit from the treatment with
*loss of libido or erection problems
*prostate probems especially bladder control at night
*improvement in helping with conception
*overall well being.

The modalities Ann now chooses to work predominantly with are Bowen Therapy and the Emmett Technique which have both originated in Australia. She also uses Myofascial Release and Craniosacral Therapy for those who need a more constant touch or work more specifically with the spine and the fluids that bathe the central nervous system. As back up for her clients once home, Ann can also make up an individualised mixture of the Australian Bush Essences

What is Myofascial Release?
Myofascial Release is a gentle hands on technique that allows the body ‘fascia’ or connective tissue to release patterns of tension and give a deep feeling of relaxation.

What is Craniosacral Therapy?
Craniosacral Therapy as the name implies, works with the bones of the skull and sacrum and the spinal fluid that bathes the spinal cord to release any held positions in their natural movement patterns which may result in blockages elsewhere in the body. It is very gentle work yet can have powerful results felt all over the body.

What is Bowen Therapy?
A series of subtle moves performed over the muscles and connective tissue which send messages deep into the body, retrieving cellular memory of a preferred, relaxed, balanced way of wellbeing. There may be frequent but important pauses throughout the sessions that allow the body time to respond and begin the healing process.

What is Emmett Technique?
A muscle therapy involving the application of light pressure sequences to various parts of the body and incorporates a gentle physical release of muscle groups. The treatment can be done fully clothed, or may involve removing some outer layers of clothing. Muscle release therapy is used as a gentle alternative and adjunct to the other types of therapies.

The massage industry requires that all its members undertake ongoing training each year to update their existing knowledge base. Ann regularly exceeds the required hours as she has a thirst for knowledge and enjoys keeping in touch with current industry developments.

Give Ann a ring and let her " Weave her magic on You". You won't regret it.

TESTIMONIALS

Dear Annie,
This is a thankyou for your help towards my husband and I to conceive our 1st child. After 18 months of trying to fall pregnant, we were headed down the IVF path. I never thought of seeking treatment with Bowen Therapy, until I heard you talking about fertility treatment & the success that Bowen Therapy has had. I came home quite excited, discussed the idea with my husband & we both agreed it was definitely worth a go.
I am so pleased to say that your treatment, was the help we both needed to prepare ourselves for the wonderful experience we are now enjoying. It took 2 cycles of treatment & now I am proudly showing off my baby bump. All going well we have a due date of Nov 29th 07.....and we can't wait!!!
We'll be sure to let you know when or little one arrives.
Many Thanks. TM Adelaide
(post script Lincoln born Nov 20th 07, weighing 7lb 1oz
3hr labour was all that was needed - natural birth)

My name is Melissa and I am a wife and a very busy mum to a 2 1/2yr old toddler and a new born baby. Approximately 10 years ago I unfortunately endured 2 work place injuries to my back. I suffered bulging disc capsules to the base of my spine and have Shermans disease to the top, along with constant every day pain.
Over the years, I have had chiropractic treatment, physiotherapy, pilates and remedial massage. When I fell pregnant with my second child, I was still having the odd remedial massage for some sort of relief, but wasn't feeling any benefit at all. I was then advised that Bowen Therapy might help, and at this stage I was ready to try anything new for relief.
Well it has been the best treatment I have experienced. I started off weekly, then fortnightly then went monthly. Near the end of my pregnancy, I was requiring treatment more regularly and as soon as bubs was born, I was straight back to treatment. I find Bowen Therapy the most relaxing and beneficial form of treatment for me, and even have had my children treated, my eldest for chest infections and my new born for colic. I have also found my new born to be a very calm, relaxed and placid little man.
I recommend anyone who suffers with pain to give Bowen Therapy a try. It works for me!!

Dear Ann,
I would like to take this opportunity to let you know of the success I have achieved through receiving your treatments. I believe that the combination of Bowen Therapy and Emmett Technique has been important in achieving pain relief for my fused ankle. I have found that after a consult my pain eases immediately, in fact I would go as far to say that I get more relief from my visits to you than pain relief tablets. My first fusion was ten years ago and the second one 12 months ago. After neither operation was I recommended to have any treatment and so have been managing on pain killers.
If I had known about Bowen Therapy when my first problem and definitely the second one occurred, I am sure I may have been able to avoid having surgery.
I would recommend Bowen Therapy and Emmett Technique to any one requiring assistance in pain relief for chronic joint discomfort like myself.

TESTIMONIALS FROM FIBROMYALGIA SUFFERER'S

For many years I had suffered with pain throughout my body, and had a general feeling of unwellness, for which I had no explanation.
Believing my pain was being caused by my neck and back being out of alignment, I sought treatment from numerous Chiropractors, which achieved limited success, and I became extremely concerned as to what the continual forceful manipulation was doing to my body.
I then decided to seek advice from a Physiotherapist, who treated me with a combination of manipulation, ultrasound and heat packs. While this method of treatment seemed more beneficial than the Chiropractic methods, I was still experiencing a great deal of pain and fatigue and required very frequent treatments. Also during the time I was receiving treatment from the Physiotherapist, I decided to try Remedial Massage with Ann Osborne as an alternating treatment, which too, provided limited benefits.
After over 20 years of continuous pain and ongoing treatments from many and varied practitioners, the Physiotherapist that I was currently receiving treatments from suggested I should consult a Rheumatologist as my symptoms seemed to be related to Fibromyalgia.
In 1998 after consulting a Rheumatologist, I was diagnosed as having Fibromyalgia, which gave me some confirmation and justification for, the pain I was experiencing. After the diagnosis, I continued with the combination treatment of Physiotherapy and Remedial Massage until May 2000, at which time I decided that this combination of treatment was not managing my pain as I would have hoped and I stopped both treatments.
I then, after much consideration decided to undergo Bowen therapy treatment with Ann Osborne who had recommended some time ago that this type of treatment might be of more benefit to my pain management than Remedial Massage. I found it hard to believe that Bowen Therapy, a very gentle approach, could give me much relief compared to the more vigorous type of treatments.
While Bowen Therapy itself involves very relaxing and gentle movements, its effect on my body, particularly during the first 6 months of treatments, was very powerful. Treatments during this time were frequent and very tiring due to the effect on my body, but as time progressed the benefits became more evident.
I have now been undergoing Bowen Therapy with Ann D'Arcy (nee Osborne) for over 3 years and during this time I have been able to reduce the frequency of my visits, as the lasting benefits of each treatment has increased to be between 4 to 6 weeks from initial weekly treatments.
Since commencing Bowen Therapy, I have not undergone any other forms of treatment for my pain management and the quality of my life has improved markedly.
L.A. Aberfoyle Park 29/10/2003

I have suffered unexplained aches and pains throughout my entire body for 16 years - fairly mild at first but gradually worsening as time passed by.
Over the last ten years or so I have seen five rheumatologists, one wanting to perform surgery on my spine, but with no guarantee that this would ease my pain. The general inference from these rheumatologists was that I was either imagining that the pains were there and really needed some psychiatric help or was virtually playing for symapthy.
Combined with the pain I was in was the feeling of frustration at not being able to do the things I wanted to do and the onset of continual tiredness and a general feeling of uselessness. This I now know is Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.
Up until now I had no idea what exactly was wrong with me, eventually my GP at that time diagnosed the problem as Fibromyalgia. This was in 2000 and it was quite a relief to have a name at last for my aches and pains and reinforced what I already knew - that they were very real and not a figment of my imagination.
For the last few years I have tried all sorts of medication and several types of treatment such as acupuncture, manipulative therapy, massage etc all of which seemed to work for a short period of time only.
Earlier this year Ann D'Arcy was recommended to me by a friend and I started Bowen Therapy in August of this year. I was very sceptical at first that a treatment that was so non invasive and gentle could possibly alleviate the sometimes excrutiating pain I was suffering but sheer desperation made me try the treatment.
To date I have had 9 treatments and although relief was slow to start with I am now feeling the benefits and have significantly reduced the amount of painkillers I need to take.
I would certainly recommend Ann and Bowen Therapy to anyone.
Audrey Powell, Happy Valley 23 October 2006

For more than ten years I have suffered from migraine headaches and severe back and muscular problems.
During that time I had many treatments by Chiropractors and Physiotherapists with no appreciable relief. This had caused me to become very depressed and resigned to having to accept the fact that no treatment of any kind would free me from my discomfort.
My sister, in Mildura, was having massage treatment and she mentioned my problems to her masseuse who suggested that I should contact Mrs Ann D’Arcy of Morphett Vale. This I did and I had an appointment with her on the 9th September 1997.
Ann suggested that Bowen Technique would be appropriate for my problem. I had the first treatment on that day and noticed immediate improvement in the area of my shoulders.
Recently I failed to negotiate a high step and strained my back muscles. Ann gave me one more treatment of the Bowen Technique which restored my back to normal.
It is now almost five months since my first experience with Bowen Technique and I am pleased to state that, considering my time of life, I cannot remember when my body has felt so comfortable.
Thank you Ann, I will always be indebted to you.
Sincerely, D.Grant Morphett Vale February 1998

Initially in November 1994 I found Ann when I felt the need for regular massage. I continued with these appointments until April 1999. Her treatments left me with a sense of well being and relaxation.
In April 2006, I sought her out again having had a serious car accident in August 2004. I felt that I needed some help outside the medical field. Ann has provided me with the treatment that has helped me feel better in my body and mind.
Having been a client of Ann's for a long period of time, I have found her to be a very talented Natural Therapist as well as being a very kind and encouraging person. Her knowledge of her craft is extensive and I would have no hesitation in recommending Ann to prospective new clients.
Yours sincerely, Lindsay Jenkinson. October 2006
