What is Naturopathy?

Naturopathy is a term that encompasses a range of different modalities, such as, herbal medicine and nutrition. It aims to support and encourage the natural healing process within each individual. It is holistic in nature and aims to identify and remove any obstacles to ill health and treat the true cause of each condition.

Treatment is based upon traditional knowledge as well as sound evidence based information and is effective when used in isolation or as a complementary form of treatment with conventional medicine. It is advisable in these situations that there is communication between the GP and Annmarie to prevent unwanted reactions and to ensure nutrients or herbal medicine do not interact with pharmaceutical medications.

What is expected from each consultation?

Everyone is an individual and each consultation will be different depending on the presenting complaint and the duration to which the patient has been experiencing their ill health.

Generally the initial consultation will be 1 hour in duration and will involve taking a thorough case history of the patient's medical and lifestyle background. It is from this that treatment can commence. Patients may be referred for integrative or conventional investigations. With these results treatment can be commenced on another level.

Subsequent consultations are generally 30minutes in length and involve further education, empowerment and treatment to assist the patient in achieving optimal health.

It is crucial that the patient feels comfortable in every stage of their naturopathic treatment and all health goals must be realistic and attainable. Communication between the patient and Annmarie is important and encouraged at every stage of treatment.
