CHINESE CUPPING:
Modern cupping uses plastic cups of various sizes with an easy pressure lift valve. Air is withdrawn from the cup using a vacuum gun which gives you greater control of the pressure required. The cups are placed on specific muscles of the body that are tight and in spasm, this helps to release blocked areas, loosen muscles, bring any congestion to the surface (may cause bruising) and pulls in fresh blood which clears any inflammation and oxygenates the area, which then promotes healing. Cupping is a great way to release tight muscles.
INFANT / CHILDRENS MASSAGE: (infant must be over 4 weeks of age)
With parent or guardian present and only using natural oils we begin with very gentle strokes. Massage can assist to release wind, loosen muscles and have a very calming affect on the baby. I encourage parents to be involved so as they can use these skills themselves.
PREGNANCY MASSAGE:
We begin with mother comfortably lying on her side, supported with pillows and cusions and drapped with a blanket. We proceed with a gentle, relaxation massage. Small and gentle strokes are used to relieve any aches and pains you may have. Massage benifits both mother and baby, it reduces anxiety, stress and cortisol levels, Increases good hormones and endorphins, enhances placental function and increases prolactin plus provides nurturing for Mum to be. (if mother prefers you can sit up for this massage)
RELAXATION / SWEDISH MASSAGE:
Total bliss with soft music and a gentle massage letting all you worries melt away. In this massage I will work on your back, legs, arms & finish with a neck & head massage. All massages can be altered to suit each individual.
CRYOTHERAPY:
Cryotherapy is the application of ICE for treatment of acute or overuse injuries. Ice absorbs swelling associated with bleeding. It decreases the rate of metabolism. Reduces the spread of the injury to surrounding tissue. It also reduces the risk of spasm and assists in decreasing pain.
DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE:
Begining with light to medium pressure to warm up the muscles, I then proceed to work deep into the muscle to release those tender areas. I recommend ICING after this proceedure as it helps to clear any fibrous tissue and toxins that may have surfaced from the muscles, plus it speeds up the healing process. Chinese cupping is also very affective for tight muscles.
TRIGGER POINT THERAPY:
Trigger points are small knots of calcified tissue found within a band of muscle which are tender to touch. They have been studied by pain clinic doctors and have been found to the main source of pain nearly 75% of the time! Wear & tear, fatigue, overuse and repetitive injury are common causes of trigger points. They can occur anywhere in the body & often refer pain to other areas of the body, confusing people to think the area of pain should be the source of pain.
Some common conditions are - Migraines, tension headaches, neck & jaw pain, burning between shoulders, frozen shoulder, tennis elbow, golfers elbow, carpal tunnel syndrome, arm & hand pain - numbness & tingling, arthritis, bursitis, tendonitis, sinus pain & congestion, muscle & stiff joints.
To treat the trigger points, heavy pressure must be applied directly to the trigger point. which initially increases pain, but then as the muscle relaxes the pain will fade. Therapy can reduce pain, increase movement and allows the muscle to lengthen and become stronger again.
