SERVICES
You and Bowen
I, along with the Bowen treatment, will help you to reset your body.
You can assist the therapy by following a few simple guidelines:
Before first treatment
Preferably, do not apply any other treatments, 5 days prior to a Bowen treatment, as this can interfere with the effectiveness of your Bowen treatment.
Day of treatment
Drinking water will be advised.
When being seated for longer periods, get up and walk a few steps at least every 30 minutes after a treatment, especially a treatment on your back.
Avoid vigorous exercise.
No hot or cold showers (however, a shower at body temperature is fine).
After treatment
Give me a call if you have any concerns.
IMPORTANT – do not apply other treatments within the next 4 days, even if it means to cancel other previously arranged appointments.
Between treatments
Drink sufficient amounts of water (aim for 4 cups or more daily).
Take your weight evenly on both feet when getting out of bed, out of a chair, out of a car etc.
Observe and read your body for changes:-- Sleeping patterns
- Energy levels
- Mood / attitude
- Toilet habits
- Your problem area
Before next treatment
Look back, reflect on your observations since the last treatment, and give me feedback as to what you have noticed and how you have felt since then. |
What is Bowen Therapy?
Where did it originate?
Bowen Therapy is a very gentle muscular therapy that can effectively treat both muscular ailments and improve overall wellbeing. Developed by Tom Bowen in the 1950’s, Bowen Therapy originated in Geelong, Victoria and as such is a very proud Australian healing therapy which is revolutionizing health care throughout the world.
How does it work?
At the heart of the technique are small, rolling moves performed on strategic muscles, tendons and ligaments in the body. With no forceful manipulation, these moves relax the body and due to their strategic location not only help muscles to realign to their correct position, but encourage the body’s own healing capacities by promoting increased blood, oxygen and nervous supply to affected areas.
How long does it take to work?
While Bowen is gentle, it is highly effective with many people experiencing significant relief after just two treatments. Depending on the nature and severity of the condition, two to four treatments are all that’s often required and in these cases, ongoing treatment is not needed. However for long standing, severe and chronic problems, more treatments may be necessary or alternatively clients may decide to make regular monthly maintenance visits for relaxation & rebalancing the body.
Who can have Bowen?
Bowen’s gentleness makes it suitable and safe for all ages including the physically frail, the elderly, babies, children and during pregnancy.
Is it like a massage?
Many people are quite skeptical after the first treatment if they have not been given an understanding of how Bowen works, compared to a massage, as the treatments are very different. Unlike massage where the practitioner is constantly working the muscles, with Bowen, the small moves over the muscles are performed in groups and then we allow a break for the body to respond to the information given to it, much like a computer when the wait signal appears before more information can be given.
What about my doctor?
It has taken time since the first Bowen Therapy class in 1986 for Bowen to become accepted by the medical profession, but it has now broken through that barrier. More medical professionals are now willing to refer their clients for Bowen Therapy because of the proven results practitioners are getting. Certainly over the last few years more and more people have heard of this or know some one who has had good results with it.
What can Bowen treat?
Many muscular or joint problems like pain, stiffness, lower back, sporting injuries or accidents may respond well to Bowen technique. In addition to affecting the physical body, Bowen can also create a deep state of relaxation, a feeling of peace & calmness, a more positive frame of mind less affected by stress. Frequently many people who have tried other treatments with limited success, find out about Bowen Therapy and are very surprised that such simple moves give them the relief they are looking for.
Some of the conditions that respond well to Bowen:
ANY back-aches & pains including sciatica
Neck & shoulder problems including frozen shoulder
Knee, ankle and foot problems
