About Menopause

Menopause is not a disease. It can occur in a woman's forties or sixties, but most commonly, the "life-altering" change takes place when a woman is in her early fifties. As women age, their oestrogen levels drop, which triggers menopausal symptoms and also increases their risk of cardiovascular disease and osteoporosis.

Symptoms of menopause vary widely. They may not affect a woman at all, or they may hit like a force of violent tornado. Many women said through their menopause with few symptoms, and many of the symptoms women have to deal with can be controlled naturally. It does not have to be a horrendous change in your life.

The most common symptoms are hot flushes, night sweats, emotional changes, sleep disturbances, weight gain, vaginal changes, low libido, .... It may sound awful, but eat properly, exercise, and talk to your doctor about hormone replacement therapy (HRT), other medications or try Chinese Herbal remedies / acupuncture (if you are frightened by the side effect of HRT), they can all help to smooth your transition. Chinese Medicine has been used to treat Menopause Symptoms for thousands of years, according to the medical record that was found in Tang dynasty. It has no side effect and it is tailored to the need of your individual health condition. It can help you regain the hormone balance naturally in a short time and enable you to enjoy the benefits of menopause.

Balance Clinic has helped hundreds of women get their menopause symptoms under control over last three years. Ask your friend, maybe she knew about it.

Asthma Treatment

Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease causing episodes of wheezing, breathlessness and chest tightness due to airway constriction, inflammation and hyper-reactivity. Asthma occurs when the main air passages in the lungs, called bronchioles, become inflamed and overly sensitive to "triggers". During attacks, the lungs produce extra mucus and the bronchiole walls narrow, making breathing difficult.

Asthma is rarely serious enough to require hospitalisation. It may cause only occasional and short-lived symptoms. But unless your asthma is well- controlled, it subtly interferes with normal activity and can quickly get out of hand.

Many people think of asthma as a childhood illness rather than one that's a particular problem for adults. While it is more common in childhood, occurring at a rate of one in five children in Australia, many adults also have the condition with more than one in ten Australian adults affected. Some of those adults have had asthma attack now and then since they were little kids. The frequent asthma attack could cause the the tissue in lungs physically gradually changed. Many patients felt short in breathe. The breathing got obviously shorter and more shallow, from difficult exhale to difficult inhale. The congestion in lungs eventually could also affect the heart.

Asthma causes widespread trouble in the community because no cure for asthma exists in the current main-stream medical system. As an alternative, we say Chinese Medicine has the advantage at treating asthma. Generally speaking, Our treatment normally takes three steps.

The first step, as to the currently active asthma. During an active phase, attacks are more frequent and treatment focuses more heavily on providing symptomatic relief. After a course of treatments, the mucous stored in lung caused by the chronic inflammation would be cleared up, the circulation in lung is getting better, the lung could function properly, the severity of asthmatic symptoms such as coughing, wheezing, chest tightness and shortness of breath are reduced; and the frequency of asthmatic episodes are lessened.

The second step, During a non-active phase (between attacks), attacks are infrequent and treatment focuses most heavily on the root cause of the asthma - the internal weakness that is allowing the attacks to occur. The TCM understanding of the mechanisms behind asthma can be complex but at the root of most asthma cases, the sufferer usually has some kind of underlying deficiency or weakness. Sporadically (or perhaps frequently depending on the severity of the asthma), this deficiency leaves the Lungs open to attack either from internally generated influences or influences invading from the exterior. These attacks produce the symptoms of an asthma episode. The most important thing in this step is to follow the practitioner's suggestion, avoiding any factors that could cause the extra mucus producing, or the bronchiole walls narrow. Such as, don't catch cold, don't do heavy labour work, or keep the allergic factors away, and so on.

Third, as to the prevention. To strengthen the health constitution and to make the immune system work strong( not overly sensitive), then allergy, cold or flu would seldom happen to you. You maybe still would catch cold or cough, but asthma would rarely act up.

In reality the line between active and "between attacks" asthma is not so clearly defined and treatment most commonly blends symptomatic relief with prevention to varying degrees.

At Balance wellness centre, many patients did get rid of asthma after courses of treatment. The earlier you take the right treatment, sooner you get better. At least steps can be taken to control it well - the aim being to be able to lead a normal, symptom-free life without drugs. In most cases, acupuncture and Chinese herbs are very effective.

Unless your case is very severe, TCM treatment for asthma is not usually ongoing and a period of treatment generally has sustained effects. Future "top-ups" are often necessary but the frequency and duration of those future treatment courses depends on the triggers and severity of your asthma.

Reports of acupuncture or Chinese herbal medicine reacting poorly with the modern prescription drugs used for asthma treatment and prevention are rare, and the two medical systems can be used side-by-side often with enhanced results.

Because Chinese medicine has an entirely unique diagnostic and treatment framework, it frequently achieves results in cases that have been unresponsive to other forms of medicine. If you are suffering from asthma and are looking for a viable alternative approach, contact Balance Wellness Centre.

Shingles

Shingles, known medically as herpes zoster, is a painful, blistering rash caused when the long-dormant chickenpox virus suddenly reawakens in nerve cells. It effects only a limited area of skin, depending on the area supplied by the affected nerve. But it makes you feel surprisingly tired, run down and miserable. A few days before the rash appears you may feel slightly unwell and develop a localised area of burning pain and tenderness. This pain can be severe, to the point where, when the affected nerve supplies the chest area, it can occasionally be mistaken for the pain of a heart attack or shoulder joint pain. One or more crops of red spots appears on the chest or back, or, more rarely on the face, arms, legs, scalp, and even inside the mouth or ears. The spots quickly turn into tiny blisters called vesicles.

Because shingles is caused by a reactivation of a dormant virus in the nerves of people who have previously had chickenpox, it can unfortunately occur more than once. Stress, illness and a vulnerable immune system are thought to be the contributing factors to an outbreak of shingles. Most suffers are adults, especially the older adults.

In some people shingles pain can persist long after the rash disappears. This complication, called post-herpetic neuralgia, results from damaged nerve fibres. Some patients have had to live with the terrible pain for all of their life.

Shingles can be very painful and difficult to treat by western medication. It is difficult to be diagnosed before the blisters appeared. But after the blisters appeared, normally just anti-virus and / or steroid tablets plus creams had been hardly to control it. After the blisters disappeared, the post-herpetic neuralgia would be the worse complicated condition left.

Nothing in the world is perfect. Western medicine system works with the great power but with disadvantage as well. Please don't blame anyone. Once your GP diagnosed your illness as shingles, it would be the time for you to take an alternative of Chinese medicine. Sarah said that acupuncture will give immediate relief from shingles pain amazingly, and the complete cure can be expected within days. You don't have to experience the neuralgia after the blisters had gone.

Psoriasis

It was reported that "More than 4 % Australians have psoriasis to a greater or lesser degree", although "The condition is not contagious." Psoriasis is a chronic disease in which the skin cells multiply very rapidly. Normally, skin renews itself in about 30 days - that's the time it takes for a new skin cell to work its way from the innermost layer of skin to the surface. In psoriasis, that cell reaches the top in just 3 days, as if the body's skin-producing brakes have failed. The result is raised areas of skin called plaques, which are red and often itchy - psoriasis is derived from the Greek word "psora", which means itch. After the cells reach the surface they die like normal cells, but there are so many of them that the raised patches turn white with dead cells flaking off. Psoriasis usually goes through cycles of flare-ups and then remission, with flare-ups most commonly occurring in winter. Sometimes it may disappear for months or years only to then reappear.

Psoriasis can either improve or get worse with age, and can affect the nails and joints as well as the skin. If you're susceptible, you might notice new spots coming up soon after the skin is cut, scratched, rubbed, or severely sunburned. Psoriasis can also be activated by infections, such as 'strep throat', and by certain medicines. Flare-ups sometimes occur during the winter months, normally a result of a combination of dry skin and a lack of sunlight, and can also be precipitated by stress.

As a psoriatic patient, you would have been told that there is NO known cure for psoriasis, and that the cause of psoriasis is unknown although it does tend to run in families. Your GP or specialist would have suggested you many things that can soothe the itching and reduce the severity of the condition. Perhaps you've been using exterior medication such as emollient body oil, petroleum jelly, or different kinds of cream such as hydrocortisone cream, or aloe vera-based cream, or herbal cream with calendula or paw paw, and so on. You might have tried some strategies for help. Perhaps you cut down on your alcohol intake, have taken fish oil, or oregon grapes. UV rays worked the fastest, but UV rays also cause new spots in previously unaffected areas. Gradually, you have to accept that you have psoriasis and focus your attention on learning how to manage it is the best thing you can do. You get used to all those creams applied straight after each bath or shower everyday. No shorts, no vest even in Summer.

It sounds so hopeless and helpless for the people who have psoriasis. It is, isn't it? Actually, NO, you don't have to suffer from it any more. As a natural alternative, in the Chinese medical diagnostic system, the cause of psoriasis is clear and various according to each individual patient. The effective cure for psoriasis has been used since the time of Tang, that was more than one thousand years ago. The reason for the likely genetic component is simple. Because families might have the similar body nature, similar lifestyle, even having the similar food intake.

At Balance Wellness Centre, the oldest psoriatic patient is 77, and had suffered for 32 years. It took 4 months to help him get well. He spent about $900 on the total treatment including consultations. Some patients with milder symptoms needed only needed 2 weeks to be cured. Acupuncture and / or Chinese herbal medicine work out theses problems rapidly and effectively in treating the cause not just covering the symptoms.

If you want your normal skin back, no patches, no itches, no flaking, please call us now on (02) 97926012 and terminate psoriasis for good.

About Sinusitis

Have you been suffering from sinusitis for ages? If anti-biotics or anti-histamine don't work for you, at Balance Clinic, the opportunity of cure is waiting for you. Using Chinese herbal medicine and / or acupuncture, we have treated many patients suffering from chronic sinusitis since this spring and normally their symptoms were all gone within 3-14 days. Several of them had suffered for more than 15 years. Our confidence is built on vast clinical experiences, not just scientific research.

Save yourself from SINUSITIS!

What is sinusitis?

Sinuses are air-filled pockets that act as small air-quality-control centres under your cheekbones, above your eyes and nose, and behind your eyes. They help to warm, moisten and purify the air you breathe before it reaches your lungs. When they are working properly, airborne bacteria get trapped and filtered out by mucus and the minute nasal hairs, called cilia that line your sinuses. This little air-flow system may gum up, however, if something impedes the cilia, if a cold clogs the sinus openings or if an allergen or irritant swells the sinus linings. Then air gets trapped, pressure builds up, the mucus stagnates and bacteria or other organisms can breed. Infection and inflammation of the sinuses can set in, and you have sinusitis.

When you sleep, nasal fluid drips down into your throat, sending you into coughing spasms. You feel pressure and pain around your face, teeth or eyes. The pain is usually worse on one side and increase when you lean forwards. You may have a headache and you'll have a thick green or yellow nasal discharge. You lose your sense of smell, your temperature may rise and you feel pretty rough.

Acute sinusitis is usually caused by viruses or bacteria and can last a month or longer. Occasionally the sinuses can become infected following injury to the skull or from spreading tooth or gum infection.

If you get clogged up too often, you may end up with a permanent thickening of the sinus membranes and a chronic stuffy nose. Chronic sinusitis, which usually lasts longer than eight weeks, is often caused by allergies - especially to dust, mould, pollen and certain fungi. Other causes can be nasal obstruction injury or caused by polyps (grape-like swelling of the membranes lining the nose, usually resulting from chronic allergy).

If you've tried self-treatment, such as inhale steam, use nasal sprays, try decongestant tablets , etc. for three or four days and still have sinus pain, pressure and stuffiness, you need to see a doctor to help clear up the infection, especially if the discharge from your nose is offensive-smelling and bloody as well as yellow or green. If your nasal obstruction is one sided only, or you have numbness on one side of your face, you should also seek an early appointment: in rare cases, a tumour in the sinus could be causing your symptoms. In severe and neglected cases, your sinuses could form an abscess affecting your eye or even your brain. You may also have chronic sinusitis, which can be a recurrent or prolonged disorder lasting for months or even years. Depending on the cause, you may need to take a longer course of antibiotics for acute sinusitis, or long-term anti-allergic medications.

Your GP may refer you for X-rays or other tests to discover what is causing your congestion, be it chronic infection, an obstruction from a deviated nasal septum, polyps or chronic allergy. You may also need to be considered for surgical drainage of a chronically blocked sinus.
