SERVICES
Welcome

Welcome to Barkly Osteopathy. We are a small clinic, situated in the heart of Mornington, providing gentle, effective osteopathic treatment for the whole family.

Osteopathic treatment primarily consists of 'hands on' techniques that focus on the joints, muscles and connective tissues of the body. These techniques include soft tissue massage, joint mobilisation, stretching and joint manipulation.

At Barkly Osteopathy, we do not only treat the affected or painful area, but also the surrounding structures that impact on this area. This addresses both the pain, and the cause of the pain, reducing the chance of your problem re-occurring. We will give advice on stretches and/or strengthening exercises if required and will talk to you about other important issues such as ergonomic advice, postural care, pillows etc. if needed.

Training

Dr Scott Niere and Dr Jane Morden both graduated from Victoria University in 2002 after completing a Bachelor of Science in Clinical Sciences and a Masters of Health Science in Osteopathy. Both Scott and Jane are members of the Australian Osteopathic Association and are both registered with the Osteopathic Registration Board of Victoria.

Osteopathic treatment can help with a wide range of problems such as:

• Back pain

• Neck pain

• Headaches

• Migraines

• Shoulder tension

• Tennis elbow

• Sports injuries

• Carpal tunnel

• Whiplash

• Pregnancy related pain

• Ankle and knee injuries

Scott is competent in treating a wide range of conditions. He is particularly interested in the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal and sports injuries. Jane has a special interest in the treatment of pregnant women with low back and pelvic pain and the treatment of neck related headaches and migraines.

What to expect at your appointment

The initial consultation will usually last for between 45 minutes and 1 hour. This consultation involves obtaining a full medical history, followed by a thorough examination and treatment of the affected areas. Treatment techniques vary depending on your condition, but may involve soft tissue massage, stretching, manipulation and mobilisation techniques. Almost all techniques are 'hands on' and all are very gentle.

A return consultation will generally last for 30 to 45 minutes.

Patients are encouraged to participate in home stretching and exercises to help reduce the number of treatments required to resolve their pain or injury. Scott or Jane will advise you of this during your treatment.
