A Bowtech Session
Treatment is usually performed with the client lying on a massage table or a bed in their underwear with appropriate draping and pillows provided for comfort. Clients may choose to be treated through light, loose clothing.
Initially a client will be asked for a brief history and to sign a consent form.
Assessments may be undertaken to determine the client's range of mobility.
Depending on the client's individual needs, most sessions take about an hour.
Sessions are usually scheduled between five and ten days apart.
Homework in the form of light exercises may be prescribed.
In this busy world various forms of external provocation as well as the full array of psychological and emotional stresses enter our personal and professional lives and keep our sympathetic nervous system in a high state of alert; the "fight or flight" state. During a Bowtech session the autonomic nervous system takes effect and the "rest and heal" state ensures the client a feeling of total relaxation.
During a session the practitioner uses the thumbs and fingers to apply gentle challenges at particular points to muscles, tendons and in some cases nerve bundles. This application is called a "move". The challenge, performed diagonally to the structure, is held for a few seconds releasing tension. Maintaining the challenge, the therapist then rolls over the structure stimulating sensory nerve endings. Between each sequence of "moves" there is a pause. These pauses allow the body to accept the information provided by the nervous system and set the healing in motion.
About Bowtech® Bowtech® - The Bowen Technique is a hands-on, holistic form of bodywork. This unique technique was developed in Australia by the late Tom Bowen and now, thanks to the Bowen Therapy Academy of Australia, has instructors and practitioners around the world.
Bowen's underlying principle is that structure governs function and that everything in the body is interconnected. Therefore, the disruption of any one tissue disrupts the function of the entire system.
The technique is used as treatment for many complaints both chronic and newly acquired including muscular, tendon, ligament, skeletal or joint pain (including "frozen shoulder") sciatica, respiratory problems, digestive and bowel problems, migraine and other types of headache, fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome, hormonal irregularities and many other complaints.
Bowtech is safe and effective and may benefit any member of the family: newborn babies and pregnant women, the fit and athletic and the sick and the elderly.
