Bikram Yoga Fitzroy offers 31 Bikram yoga classes each week. All classes are run in a heated environment for 90 minutes with 26 postures and 2 breathing exercises.

The studio is co-managed by Dr. Michael Houghton and his wife Susan Houghton, who are both certified Bikram instructors.

As a chiropractor with a special interest in the "psychosomatic" or "mind/body" connection, Dr. Michael Houghton is keen to assist people, using gentle and safe chiropractic care to overcome neuro/musculo/skeletal conditions that may impact negatively on a person's quality of life through pain, fatigue, and bodily organ dysfunction.

He ultimately aims to provide chiropractic care while also helping a person achieve a greater level of self control and responsibility for one's health through diet and exercise. As a certified instructor of Bikram Yoga he is particularly interested in the unique benefits of practicing this HOT style of yoga.

By practicing yoga in a heated environment, a person is able to more easily and safely open up the soft tissue and joint structures of the body.

At the same time the special heated environment stimulates general body organ function. As the heat thins down blood and stimulates the cardiovascular system, the flow of oxygenated blood perfuses more deeply into tissues and organs to heal and restore the body.

In addition the heat causes profuse sweating leading to a general detoxification process. The heat also stimulates the general performance of the body's immune system.

As a special service to the yoga community, Dr. Houghton is pleased to offer yoga students, from any discipline of yoga, a complimentary complete initial chiropractic exam that would normally cost $85.
