About Sarah
BSc Health Studies; Adv Dipl Naturopathy
I combine traditional practices with evidence-based research to offer you effective, personalised natural health solutions and a standard of care you can trust. I place an emphasis on prevention and self-care, which I believe leads to a high level of self-empowerment.
I treat the whole person, not just a specific ailment or part of the body. This holistic approach to health seeks to address the causes of disorders and not just the symptoms. I use herbal medicines, vitamins, minerals, food/diet, and EFT (Emotional Freedom Therapy) to support, restore and balance the body's own defence mechanisms.
Naturopathy - the origins of naturopathy can be traced back to ancient Greece and Hippocrates, the founding father of natural medicine. Hippocrates described the human organism as a holistic combination of body, mind and spirit, and thus naturopathy seeks to restore balance to the whole being. It is known that this body, mind and spirit being has an inherent capacity to generate self healing, given appropriate conditions. The role of the naturopath is to facilitiate this process through education, life style changes, and a range of holistic medicines.
Herbal Medicine is a system of natural health care that uses medicinal plants to address a broad range of health conditions to treat or prevent illness and restore health.
Vitamins and Minerals - Vitamins and minerals are vital body nutrients that the body needs to function properly. If we are not getting these nutrients from the foods we eat, due to the type of food we are eating, from certain lifestyle choices we make, i.e. smoking and oral contraceptive use will deplete vitamin C in the body, or for medical reasons, i.e. iodine for low thyroid function, then we may need to take vitamin and mineral supplements.
Food - 'Let food be thy medicine and medicine be your food' - Hippocrates considered illness to be a natural phenomenon that forced people to discover the imbalances in their health. He strongly believed in good food and related the course of any ailment to poor nutrition and bad eating habits. Foods contain, as well as vitamins and minerals, synergistic groups of ingredients that provide medicinal benefit. These groups were previously referred to as secondary ingredients because their actions were not understood; some of these ingredients are carotenoids, flavonoids, estrogens, and enzyme inhibitors. These ingredients are now called phytochemicals, which means plant based.
Emotional Freedom Technique - EFT is a simple tapping procedure that is based on the ancient principles of acupuncture. It seeks to realign the body's energy system without the discomfort of needles. EFT incorporates an emotional element in the healing process, addressing unresolved emotional issues as a likely contributing cause of physical disease and psychological and emotional imbalance. EFT quickly realigns the energy meridians relating to negative emotions and memories.
Naturopathic Consultations
A naturopathic consultation involves a thorough case taking process, including a detailed history of your health issues and patterns. This helps to understand the cause of your symptoms and to prescribe the best treatment plan for you.
With your participation, I will develop an individualised health plan for you. We usually set short-term and long term goals. This may include the prescription of high quality herbal medicines, nutritional supplements, dietary advice and life style adjustments. Depending on your individual circumstances follow-up consultations are usually required. This helps me to adjust the treatment according to your response and to take the treatment to a deeper level, if indicated.
Naturopathic treatment is gentle and gradual and while you will nearly always have a positive response after the first session it is important to allow time for your body to get back into order, especially if you have had health problems for a number of years.
