SERVICES Alexander Technique and Feldenkrais Method
Individual and group classes by appointment
The Alexander Technique and Feldenkrais Method enable you to relieve and avoid aches and pains by removing the unnecessary stresses of inefficient posture and movement. The work is painless, subtle, deeply relaxing and extremely effective. If you are not completely satisfied by what you learn in your first session there will be no fee.

Fees
One hour sessions - $100
Extended sessions (longer than one and a half hours) - $150
Two hour assessment consultation - $170
Half hour sessions - $70
Fifteen Minute reminder sessions - $40
Group classes are $20 and can be attended casually.
Each private session undertaken also gives you free entry to a group class that week.
If you prepay for 5 sessions you receive the 5th session free! That's a saving of $100!
The Feldenkrais Method
The Feldenkrais Method is used by people all over the world to remove back, neck or limb pain and to find relief from many other problems. Performing artists, speakers and sportsmen at elite levels also use the method to improve their performance.
The method enables you to unravel harmful habits of posture and to discover ease and freedom of movement. It's brilliant for alleviating aches and pains.
Freedom and ease through awareness and understanding
There are two main modalities within the Feldenkrais Method - Awareness Through Movement and Functional Integration. Awareness Through Movement lessons are verbally directed movement explorations usually done in groups. There are over a thousand lessons that explore a huge range of functions.
Functional Integration is a modality for working with individuals. A practitioner, primarily using their hands, guides you through a sequence of movements that are all related to a specific functional theme. The function chosen is often one that will give you an experience of what it is like to move without your problem.
The focus is on minimal effort, ease of movement and learning. You don’t stretch or strain in a Feldenkrais lessons. You seek greater freedom and ease through awareness and understanding.
It's easy to do, extremely subtle and very effective.
This small video by Irene Gutteridge gives a very good sense of the nature and process of the way we explore movement to improve function. It is this same process of playful, absorbed enquiry that can enable you to understand and use your body freely and easily!

The Alexander Technique
The most fundamental thing about the Alexander Technique is that you stop and pay attention to the way you feel. Within that simple practice lies a kernel of great wisdom. It is one of those profoundly simple things that can generate great presence of mind.
Many of the problems we suffer would be entirely preventable if only we knew what it was that we were doing. The Alexander Technique provides a means to explore the way you move and use your body. It provides a means to explore what you are doing both consciously and unconsciously and to find the best way to use your body in any circumstance.
A profound sense of peace
On the surface the Alexander Technique seems concerned with posture or with maintaining a sense of ease in all movements. Many people come motivated by pain and as their posture improves, their pains do disappear. This is very satisfying. To feel in control of your own body . To be able to alleviate then avoid aches and pains.
However, there is another aspect to lessons that can be even more satisfying. Many habits of tension and poor movement are a physical response to anxiety. Releasing tensions related to anxiety can give a profound sense of peace. Stopping to pay attention gives you the opportunity to reassess the relevance of old perceptions and be present to what you perceive now. It can create a great sense of freedom and possibility.

Workshops
The Walk on Walking - Central Australia
August 18th to 25th 2012
A seven-day bushwalk into the heart of Australia's most beautiful country combined with an in-depth exploration of the way you move.
We are privileged on this walk to explore the mountains and gorges of the Macdonell Ranges with two extraordinary Arrentre guides.
We also have a camp manager and a chef. All you need to carry on the walk is water and a jacket. The food is brilliant, we cater for all diets and we sleep in great comfort under the stars or in tents.
Each day we do one 2 to 4 hour walk that is topped and tailed by a Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement lesson.
It’s an immersive experience leading to some profoundly relaxed states that will make a big difference on many levels.
Remember that this year’s walk was booked out well in advance and there are only 12 places on this trip!

Group Classes
These classes which are held in my rooms at 1/25a Avalon Pde can make a significant change to the way you feel and move. The classes, which can be done individually or as a group, will each have a specific focus.
Happiness - Tuesday Evenings 6.00pm till 7.30pm
Walking - Thursday Mornings 9.30am till 11.00am
Dexterity - Saturday Mornings 11.00am till 12.00am
The Happiness lesson will feature a reading or talk on that topic prior to a Feldenkrais lesson that follows that theme. This class will be useful for anyone who suffers from stress, anxiety or depression or anyone with an interest in meditation or being.
The Walking class will feature a twenty-minute walk around the neighbourhood after a lesson that makes it effortless to move.
The Dexterity lesson will look at the organisation of the hands and arms - How their use influences the way we think, act and move.
This class will be of particular interest to musicians, artists, craftspeople or anyone for whom deftness is a blessing. It will also be of benefit for anyone who experiences pain in their arm, hand or shoulder due to arthritis or RSI.
Each group class is $20. If you do all three during a week it is only $50.
Private lessons are $100 for one hour, $135 for and hour and a half and $170 for two hours.
This year if you have a private lesson it automatically entitles you to a free group class.
There are generous discounts for prepayment!

If you prepay 20 lessons it is $330 (down from $360)
