What is CranioSacral Therapy?
It is a hands on therapy. For treatment, you will usually lie on a treatment table and experience the very light touch of the therapists hands. You may feel a deep sense of relaxation, and possibly become aware of heat, tingling, pulsations or other sensations.
This extremely gentle therapy uses no manipulation. The therapist listens, via the hands, to what is going on in your body, and in this way both identifies and relieves pains or tensions held in the body.
CranioSacral Therapy is client-led. Your body will set the pace of work, so you will remain comfortable, in control and able to integrate the changes that occur.
CranioSacral Therapy is becoming much better known these days. It is based on a number of findings about the bodys subtle physiology, which were made by osteo- paths in the USA nearly 100 years ago.
These findings show that every cell in a healthy body expresses a rhythmic move- ment which is fundamental to life and which has been called craniosacral motion.
At the core of the body the cerebrospinal fluid, which bathes and cushions the brain and spinal cord, expresses this motion in a tidelike ebb and flow, while bones organs and other structures and tissues in the body each follow their own particular pattern of movement. This motion is so subtle that it is barely measurable with instruments, but the hands of a trained therapist are able to perceive and subtly interact with it in a therapeutic way, which brings about self (and cell) re-organisation and healing in the various tissues and systems as well as in the different layers of the bodys energy field.
As the implications of these findings were realised, during the first thirty years or so of this century, CranioSacral Therapy gradually developed. Since then the therapy has been refined and further developed into the subtle, deep healing process which is available today. The processes bring about self (and cell) re-organisation and healing in the various tissues and systems of the body as well as in the different layers of its energy field.
CranioSacral Therapy for Horses & Dogs
CranioSacral Therapy for Horses, Dogs or other pets

CranioSacral Therapy works as well on horses, dogs or other animals as it does on humans, and usually very visibly so.
Please see What is CranioSacral Therapy? in the menu for a description of CranioSacral Therpay. Below is a continuation of that description with how it works on animals.
The animals close to us dont only have to contend with their own problems, but they often take on their humans issues as well in some form or other.
Although CranioSacral Therapy effectively may treat or alleviate many of the animals problems, it may be even more beneficial to treat both horse and rider/owner or dog and owner as a combination rather than just the animal.
Often the best course of action is to do one or more sessions on the human first, as this gives him or her the understanding of what is happening in the animal during and between sessions and to understand the changes it is bringing about. It also gives the animal the chance to have less or no impact from its humans issues before CranioSacral work is commenced with the animal.
Equine CranioSacral Therapy
Many of todays horses would benefit from receiving CranioSacral Therapy to maintain the health and balance of their bodies as well as for rehabilitation or correcting abnormal movement.
They are on a daily basis subjected to various forms of stress, especially from the perspective of the way a horse would live naturally. Horses are much more affected by the different types of equipment used on them, such as saddles, bridles, bits, halters, blankets etc, and how we use them, like riding, show jumping, racing, driving, competitions, breeding etc, than we think.
The added impact of more or less accomplished riders and their imbalances makes matters worse. Other things that affect them greatly are farriery, dentistry, stable conditions and how they spend the greater part of their time. They also get injuries in paddocks and on slippery surfaces and tracks.
CranioSacral Therapy may efficiently be used on horses for maintenance of optimal body functioning, for rehabilitation after injury (old and new) and to address many different kinds of problems or conditions such as neck and back problems, rotated pelvis, hind quarter problems, lameness, jaw joint problems, tinnitus, facial nerve paralysis, head shaker syndrome, certain allergies, blocked tear ducts, castration issues, difficulties with certain movements during riding, behaviour and emotional problems, to mention a few.
