Our Treatments include

Osteopathy
At the Breath and Body Clinic we combine a range of specialised osteopathic techniques such as mobilisation, spinal manipulation, cranial osteopathy, visceral technique and muscle energy technqiue with various types of therapeutic massage and active rehabilitation therapies.

You are asked to participate in the treatment by using relaxation, breathing and visualisation. Between treatments you will be given exercises and instructions to help you get results faster. Our treatment is gentle and suitable for all ages including the elderly, babies and children.

Osteopathy has provided the pathway toward healing many types of illnesses that have failed to respond to other treatments through restoring blood flow and lymphatic flow and enhancing respiration through the relaxation of body tissues.

Acupuncture
Acupuncture treatment is a stand-alone treatment and a useful adjunct to osteopathic treatment which often seems to increase treatment response and help the healing process for some patients.

Acupuncture originated from China over 5.000 years ago and its use outside China only began to spread after the 1970’s. Since that time its popularity as a non-drug treatment has grown enormously in the west.

Traditional explanations for the effects of acupuncture are connected to theories about its ability to influence the vital energy or Qi of the body. In traditional Chinese medicine Qi (in its many manifestations) is the source of life and health and blockage or imbalance in Qi is considered to be the source of all illness.

Modern scientific explanations include theories that link the acupuncture effect to its ability to: influence the level of endorphins, balance the function of the nervous system, alter the activity of electrical currents in the body and influence circulation.

There are over 1,000 acupuncture points on the body. Research evidence is strongest for the use of acupuncture for post-operative pain, tennis elbow and carpal tunnel syndrome. However there is also evidence for its effectiveness for headache, migraine, irritable bowel syndrome and infertility.

Nutritional Medicine
Nutritional consultations and dietary advice are part of the holistic approach at the Breath and Body Clinic.

The dietary advice we give is fad-free and based on sound information.

Key information about diet is also an important part of the Breathing Therapy and Wellness programs because good health is impossible to achieve and maintain without healthy food.

Food is central to our lives and to our health as individuals and as a society. Food brings pleasure and enjoyment and the quality and type of food we eat has a major impact on the quality of our health. Food is also medicine with powerful biological effects. The rituals around the growing, preparation and sharing of food bring people together. How we grow and distribute food is essential to the health of our society and our planet.

A healthy diet looks like the sort of diet that pre-industrialised societies ate. It is grown mostly organically, unprocessed and prepared in ways that increase its nutritional value. The health of children in particular is strongly affected by diet.

Herbal Medicine
We prescribe Western and Chinese Herbal medicines as general tonics for a run down state or to help with specific conditions.

Herbal medicine is also known as phytotherapy or plant medicine. It is the oldest system of medicine with a tradition in all the world’s cultures. There are over 300,000 species of plants on this earth. Some of these plants have been used as medicine since the beginning of human history. In 60,000 BC a Neanderthal man was buried with medicinal herbs including some that are still used in herbal medicine today.

Herbs are considered a gentle form of medicine, however they can be very effective if used in the right situation. Herbal medicines can also be toxic, however government regulation of potentially toxic herbs is effectively carried out in Australia which minimises risk to the consumer.
