About Belinda...
I am a qualified Acupuncturist who is registered with the Chinese Medicine Registration Board of Victoria (CMRBV) and an accredited member of the Australian Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine Association (AACMA). I completed a Bachelor of Health Science in Chinese Medicine in 2005. I have been practising here at Lilydale Osteopathy & Natural Health Care for over 2 years and find it very rewarding to help people overcome their aches and pains, and achieve optimum health in a natural way. Of particular interest to me is women’s health and I hope to specialise in this field in the future. My clinic provides a warm, welcoming environment in which to relax and enjoy the experience of acupuncture treatment.

What is Chinese Medicine (CM)?
Chinese Medicine (CM) is an ancient healing art, established around 5000 years ago. It came about from many years of observing nature and the cycle of life. It includes various modalities such as Acupuncture, Herbal Medicine, moxa, massage, cupping, gua sha and dietary and lifestyle advice. Acupuncture is the most commonly used modality and is the area that I specialise in.

Chinese Medicine is a natural therapy that aims to alleviate pain and promote health and well being by correcting the flow of energy in your body.

How Does Acupuncture Work?
According to CM, there are channels of energy that flow within our bodies. Due to various factors such as overwork, poor diet, physical injury etc., these energies can stagnate, weaken or flow in the wrong direction. This causes pain, disease or dysfunction of certain organs. Acupuncture uses the insertion of needles to tap into these channels to unblock, strengthen or balance their flow. It effectively allows your body to heal itself with your own energy.

Does it Hurt?
Not really. As opposed to syringes, which are thicker and inject fluids into veins or muscle tissue, Acupuncture needles are very fine and are not inserted as deeply. Sometimes you may experience an aching or tingling feeling (but these are normal sensations of your own energy flow) and sometimes you may feel nothing at all! In fact, Acupuncture is commonly described as an extremely relaxing and calming experience.

Is it Dangerous?
Not at all. I am a qualified and registered Chinese Medicine Practitioner and am trained to accurately locate Acupuncture points and use correct needling technique. I always clean your skin with an alcohol swab before needling and I use single-use, disposable needles.

Where do the Needles Go?
Acupuncture points are located virtually over the entire surface of the body. I select anywhere from 1-10 points based on your condition and individual energy flow. Most commonly used points, however, are found on the limbs.

What are the Benefits of Acupuncture?
Chinese Medicine looks at your body as a whole system, & looks at not only the presenting condition but also the underlying contributing factors such as stress, diet etc. In treating these underlying factors, Acupuncture gives more effective & longer-lasting results.

Also, because Acupuncture harnesses your own energy to combat ill-health, you are not relying on drugs to just cover up symptoms. As a result, your body becomes stronger & more resilient in defending itself against disease in the future.

Acupuncture not only gives significant relief from chronic pain, it is also very effective in treating mild conditions before they deteriorate and get to that chronic, sometimes debilitating stage. So you can choose to be proactive with your health; prevent things from getting worse & be in control of your own health & well being.

There are also a lot of general effects that Acupuncture has on your body such as strengthening your immune system, enhancing circulation, regulating hormones, increasing energy & reducing stress.

People often try Acupuncture as a last resort when nothing else has worked for them. And more often than not they walk out of my treatments wishing they had come to me first! Acupuncture can have you back at work, back on the footy field or netball court, back to playing with your kids, basically back to your old self without any drugs, hassle or pain!

With all these benefits, why wouldn’t you try Acupuncture with me? Just imagine feeling better, stronger, healthier... & you can make it happen! Let me help you start feeling like yourself again!

Do I Need a Referral?
In most cases, no. You can just phone or walk in to book your appointment. If you are a TAC or WorkCover client, you will need a written referral from your GP before attending your first appointment. It's also adviseable to check with your employer/insurer if they will pay for Acupuncture treatments.

What Can Acupuncture Treat?
Acupuncture can treat a wide variety of conditions because all disease is a result of the disrupted flow of energy in our bodies. Here are some of the conditions Acupuncture can effectively treat:

Musculoskeletal
Sports injuries, arthritis, lower back pain, sciatica, tennis elbow, carpal tunnel syndrome, frozen shoulder, RSI

Respiratory
Asthma, bronchitis, sinusitis, nosebleeds, pneumonia, tonsillitis, coughs &colds, hayfever

What to Expect
In your Initial Consultation I will take a detailed history of your presenting complaint as well as your general health. I will also look at your tongue and feel your pulse. All this helps me to accurately diagnose your condition and tailor a treatment plan for you. I then perform the treatment which involves the gentle insertion of needles into various areas of the body. The needles are left in for 10-15 minutes, then removed and safely disposed of.

Your treatment may also include other therapies such as moxa, cupping, ear candling or prescribed herbal pills. These therapies complement and enhance your acupuncture treatment.
