Treatments

Remedial Massage

When muscles and tendons become damaged or impaired, knotted and tense or immobile, Remedial Massage provides a healing treatment that can be gentle or strong, deep or shallow. Remedial massage holistically treats the whole body and traces the discomfort as far as possible back to the original cause, healing both the cause of the disorder as well as the symptoms.

Pregnancy Massage

Pregnancy massage incorporates a combination of Swedish and Remedial Massage techniques, to assist with the tensions and pains experienced during pregnancy. These are often caused by the extra weight and shift in the centre of gravity. There are many physical benefits to Pregnancy Massage. Massage reduces peripheral swelling, soothes the nervous system, helps to prevent insomnia, muscle cramps and back pain.

Trigger Point

Trigger points, also known as myofascial trigger points, are areas of hyperirritability in the soft tissue structure. These can be acute sources of pain or latent, unnoticed by the client until pressure is applied by the practitioner. Trigger points are manifested as small contraction knots in the muscles, that control the state of contraction and active ones may cause muscle spasm and referred pain.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep Tissue Massage , as its name says, focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue. It is designed to reach the deep sections of thick muscles, specifically the individual muscle fibres.

Using deep muscle compression and friction along the grain of the muscle, the purpose of Deep Tissue Massage is to unstick the fibres of the muscles and release both toxins and deeply held tension points.

Reiki

Reiki treatment follows a traditional pattern of hand positions, resting without pressure on or above the body. Reiki is pure energy, and brings about deep relaxation and healing.

Reiki, meaning "universal life force energy", aims to improve health and enhance the quality of life. It treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit and creates many beneficial effects including relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing. Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use.

Cupping

Cupping is an ancient Chinese therapy in which a cup is applied to the skin and the pressure in the cup is reduced (either by heat or suction) in order to draw and hold skin and superficial muscles inside the cup. Sometimes, while the suction is active, the cup is moved, causing the skin and muscle to be pulled. This is called gliding cupping.

Moxibustion

Moxibustion therapy is a traditional Chinese medicine treatment that assists in dispelling cold and damp from the body.

Moxibustion is the burning of an herb called mugwort. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, mugwort is considered to be warm, acrid, and bitter when used in herbal prescriptions. When burnt, it has similar properties and, thus, its warming nature is useful for helping to expel cold and damp from the body as well as warming the body’s channels.

About Nurturing Moments

www.nurturingmoments.com.au

Nurturing Moments began out of the desire to extend my work with children and parents. I had been a special education teacher for 5+ years and was looking for a way to help parents become more involved in working with their children. Empowering parents and giving them the tools to enhance the bond and communication with their child was at the forefront of my mind when I discovered infant massage.

The beauty of infant massage besides the physical, social, physiological and emotional benefits is that it is not only to be taught and used with babies, but with all children.

As a Certified Infant Massage Instructor, I now teach parents the correct strokes, ideal timing and length of massage to avoid over-stimulation with their children. As a new mother myself, I feel I have even more skills to offer as an instructor because of the hands on experience from massaging my daughter.

My desire is to help parents discover the magic of infant massage.

Benefits of Baby Massage include:

  • Reduces crying time.
    • Various research studies on infant massage have shown that there is a significant reduction in overall crying time with infants and toddlers who receive massage.

  • Improves sleep and regulates sleep patterns.
    • Massage increases serotonin levels and regulates melatonin secretion rhythms which helps regulate sleep patterns.

  • Ideal for pre-term infants.
    • Research has shown that infants receiving touch therapy and massage gain weight faster and are discharged earlier than other infants.

  • Enhances emotions and improves mood.
    • Massage increases dopamine levels which are believed to play an important role in regulating anger, aggression, temperature, mood and appetite in addition to other body functions.

  • Improves wind, colic, reflux and constipation.
    • Massage stimulates elimination of waste from the body, can relieve abdominal wind within minutes and speeds a natural process of the nervous system which can assist with reflux.

  • Relieves sinus and chest congestion.
    • Massage helps promote adequate drainage of the sinuses and excess mucus on the chest.

  • Boosts immune system.
Research shows that infant massage can positively influence physiological processes and improve immune function.

  • Reduces stress hormone levels in children and their parents.
    • Known as “the stress hormone” cortisol is released during times of stress. Prolonged high levels of cortisol can reduce immunity, impair cognitive performance, and reduce bone density and muscle tissue. Massage measurably decreases cortisol levels in both children and their parents allowing blood pressure, heart rate, digestive functioning and hormonal levels to return to their normal state.

  • Early diagnosis of potential health issues.
    • Parents who massage their infant each day are more likely to notice changes in their child’s physical condition, which may go unnoticed longer with infants who are not receiving massage.

  • Reduces symptoms of Eczema.
    • A UK study showed significant improvement in eczema symptoms with the introduction of massage by parents in addition, Infant Massage Instructors have seen improvement first hand with many babies at infant massage classes.

  • Enhances coordination.
    • Studies have shown infant massage improves left/right brain communication which has been suggested to improve intelligence.
