HOMOEOPATHY
Homoeopathy is a simple and safe modality that can be used on anyone from babies, pregnant women and the elderly. Its main strength is its ability to assist the natural ability of the body to heal itself. It can be used to treat acute states such as a cold or a sprained ankle and chronic states such as high blood pressure, fatigue, stress and eczema.
Homoeopathic remedies can help with imbalances in all areas of our being - be they mental, emotional, spiritual or physical – so it is a truly holistic therapy.
Homoeopathy was developed in Germany in the 18th century by a medical doctor called Samuel Hahnemann. He had become disillusioned with what he called the “heroic medicine” of his era which often included drastic things such as excessive blood letting.
He developed a more simple method of healing based on the principle that “like cures like.” What this means is that he tested remedies on healthy people and they recorded the symptoms that the remedy gave them. He then realised that if he gave this remedy to a patient who already had these symptoms that the person would make a recovery. The remedy was the same as the symptoms and - like had cured like.
This idea was not new as the Father of Medicine, Hippocrates and other ancient healers such as Paracelcus had also held the belief that substances that produce symptoms in healthy people can be used to treat those same symptoms in sick people.
During a Homoeopathic consultation, your full case history will be taken from childhood onwards and your parents and siblings health history is also briefly discussed. The Homoeopath gets to know you as a person including your likes and dislikes, and how you respond under certain circumstances.
At the end of the consult the Homoeopath chooses one Homoeopathic remedy for you that matches the majority of your symptoms. You will be instructed on how many times you should take this remedy and you would then “watch and wait” to see what happens next.
All treatment programs are written down, easy to follow and made to suit your individual needs.
Homoeopathy is a bit like peeling an onion in that by taking remedies the client moves through the layers of their symptom picture and towards recovery from the symptoms that they first presented with.
