Zen Shiatsu is an ancient form of bodywork from Japan that focuses on the energy channels of the body to provide energetic balance and harmony. Clients will experience a profound sense of relaxation which goes beyond the physical release of stress to the mental and emotional levels to bring balance and grounding to the body and mind.

Yoga therapy unites the physical poses of yoga with the diagnostic techniques of eastern medical approaches such as zen shiatsu to identify the appropriate yoga poses to reduce and eliminate energetic imbalances, stiffness and tension in the body. Over time, improvements will be noticed in posture, strength and flexibility to protect the body from the effects of ageing, stress, muscular-skeletal distortions and assist in healing the body from injuries.


Zen Shiatsu
Zen shiatsu or ‘finger pressure’ is an ancient form of healing from Japan that evolved from Chinese ‘anma’ and Do-In massage. A shiatsu session begins with a diagnosis of the abdomen (hara) to determine the quality and balance of energy in the body. The shiatsu treatment uses the diagnosis to harmonise the energetic system by treating the meridian pathways located in the musculoskeletal systems with a gentle yet penetrative leaning pressure. Balancing the musculoskeletal, meridian and nervous systems corrects distortions that can eventually lead to disease, stimulates the natural healing ability of the body and promotes a long-lasting sense of calm and relaxation.


Yoga Therapy
Yoga encompasses behavioral, physical and meditative practices, known as the ‘limbs’ of yoga. The benefits of practicing yoga are well-known: increased strength and flexibility, improved posture, relief from stress and a greater sense of calm and relaxation. Yoga postures access not only the energy centers of the body but also access the organs in the abdomen (hara) and the meridian lines and points which we treat in Zen Shiatsu. In this way, yoga postures are effective in balancing the energy flow in the entire body, creating a sense of ‘oneness’ and connection between different parts of the body as well as the connection between the body, the mind and the emotions.


Reiki
Reiki is the Japanese work for “universal energy/life-force”. The techniques were re-discovered by Mikao Usui in ancient Sanskrit texts in India in the 19th century. Usui brought the knowledge back to Japan and it was then disseminated throughout the world.The Reiki system is a series of techniques that allow anyone to focus and concentrate that life energy, which is a part of all of us and thus available to everyone. Reiki treatments allow a practitioner to use the system to focus that energy for the benefit of the receiver.

In a Reiki treatment, the giver either holds her hands above or lightly on the body. The concentrated life energy then activates the major centers and energy pathways of the body. The energy then goes where it needs to go in the body to heal and revitalize.
