12 WEEK TAICHI PROGRAM
By the end of 12th week the learner will be able to:
- practice 12 form Taichi
- reach and maintain a deeper relaxation of the body
- lead one’s body and mind into a comfortable and focused state
- increase peace, awakeness, and freedom obtained through practice
1st week
- Introduction to the essence of Taichi: relaxation and concentration
- Introduce each other: classmates as companions, helpers and friends
- Learn: standing meditation
2nd week
- Understanding stiffness and tension, how to get rid of them
- Learn: step forward and raise palms (part the wild horse’s mane)
3rd week
- How to reach deeper relaxation
- Learn: four basic powers (grasp sparrow’s tail)
4th week
- A study into slowness
- Learn: step forward and push (jade lady threads shuttle)
5th week
- Gaining greater control over your body
- Learn: circle arms and push forward (brush knee and step forward)
6th week
- Power of mind (concentration)
- Learn: walk sideway and circle hands (cloud hands)
7th week
- Power of softness (relaxation)
- Learn: hold one hand and strike with another (single whip)
8th week
- Power of compliance (using opponent’s energy)
- Learn: Lower body, thrust with hand, stand on one leg (golden rooster stands on one leg)
9th week
- letting go of oneself and following the flow
- Learn: walk back and whirl arms (repulse the monkey)
10th week
- Complying with the nature’s pattern: changes to our lifestyle
- Learn: closing movement
11th week
- Principles of Taichi movement (and its implication in other sports)
- Learn: review the whole routine
12th week
- Mindfulness, awakening, and freedom
