Clarus Cottage is conveniently situated in the heart of Central Maitland, within easy reach from Newcastle, Raymond Terrace, Toronto, Dungog, Singleton, Kurri Kurri and Cessnock.
The centre boasts a comfortable “cottage” atmosphere, housed in a heritage listed cottage built in 1890. Ample free parking is available for clients in the open public car park opposite. The car park is located between Elgin St and Church St. We are positioned at the northern end of the car park, near the ‘Albion Centre’ and Skin Cancer Clinic.
‘No 9’ and ‘Clarus Cottage’ are clearly displayed on the front of the cottage. Please enter through the front gate, walk up the left side of the building and enter through the side door. Please allow minimal waiting time and ring the bell at your appointed time. Tea, coffee, water & toilet facilities are available. Please phone first.

Our Clinicians
Clarus Cottage has available within its ranks, a range of accredited, fully qualified and experienced professionals (both male and female), including; Psychologists, Social Workers, Counsellors and Psychotherapists. With this choice of personnel and variety of therapeutic treatment styles, we are confident we can match the particular requirements and needs of the patient with the most appropriate clinician.
We strive to respond quickly to referrals and to provide sessions to clients as soon as possible, including emergency/crisis situations. In addition to our rooms at “Clarus Cottage” Maitland, we also have access to rooms at Lorn, Newcastle and Salamander Bay.
Fees
Private Clients: Fees vary according to the clinician you are seeing, the treatment you are receiving and should be discussed / negotiated on referral. Payment is by cash or cheque at the end of each session. If you have Private Health insurance, you may be reimbursed for some of this cost, please check.
Funded Clients: Whereby treatment sessions are paid for by another agency, Employer, Insurer, Government Department, DCS, VCT, DVA etc. Standard APS rates apply. No payment required by patient.
Medicare Clients: Medicare offers affordable access to Professional Counselling via the 2710 programme ‘Better Access to Mental Health’. You will need to have a referral from your G.P. and be subject to a Health Care Plan. Please consult your GP. For all ‘2710’ referrals, the standard session fee for treatment by a registered Psychologist at this practice is $120.00 per 60 minute session. Payment in full is required by cash or cheque at the end of each session. With your receipt you will be eligible to immediately claim back $80.20 from Medicare (situated nearby at Pender Place).
Special Circumstances: Should there be genuine financial difficulty a reduction in the fee may be considered. This will need to be assessed with the clinician at your first session. Or you can contact us at Clarus Cottage to discuss your concerns further.
Cancellation Policy: If you need to cancel or postpone your appointment, please give at least 24hours notice, otherwise you may be charged for the cost of the session.
