My process is characterised by warmth, acceptance, trust and a positive, constructive dialogue. COUNSELLING STYLE
My approach is humanistic: the relationship between us is very important. It is important that you find a therapeutic approach that suits you; mine is person-centered, relational, humanistic and collaborative. I believe context is important; the unique facts and nuances of our lives that refer to our unique situations.
I believe in dissolving obstacles. Although at first sight something seems impassable, I have a surprising faith (from my own experiences) in ways of by-passing and dissolving it.
I am a good person to have if the road ahead seems especially difficult. I am a thoroughly optimistic person; this in itself can be a valuable asset in times of difficulty.
Very good recent research (Asay & Lambert 1997) suggests that 40% of therapeutic outcome is related to client support networks and resources, 30% is related to the ease and comfort of the therapeutic relationship, 15% to the hope and anticipation of the client, and only 15% to the psychotherapist's technique and theoretical assumptions.
So my role as a therapist and counsellor is to facilitate your strengths and context. And although this may sound simple, it is more difficult than it at first appears. This of course must occur in a positive and trusting relationship, which in turn facilitates your hopes and expectations going forward. So, a comfortable relationship is crucial to ensuring success and a good outcome in counselling and psychotherapy.

BACKGROUND
I come from a family that has for many generations been involved in the helping professions. Compassionate and informed care for others has been a key part of my background. I started in the sciences but migrated to the humanities. For many years I was interested in body focused therapies, with an appreciation of the relationship between the mind, emotions and body. This culminated in me qualifying with a three year Bachelor of Counselling and Human Change Degree. The three year full time degree involved training in a wide variety of counselling and psychotherapy approaches. A wide skill set was instilled and acquired.
My experience and solid academic training in counselling theory and practice enables a very wide open negotiable relationship in which I endeavour to follow you wherever you want to go. The benefits of being really seen and heard can last for a very long time.
ETHICAL FOCUS
I scrupulously follow the ethical standards of my professional association, the Counsellors' and Psychotherapists' Association of Victoria.
FEES
My fees range from $35 to $60 per session. The cheaper rate is for students and concession card holders. I can see clients for sixty minutes or up to an hour and a half depending on specific needs.
Sometimes seeing me for the longer period of 90 minutes can be helpful. I deliberately and consciously make this available to you.
My fees are not rebatable through Medicare but Medibank Private Health Fund may provide some rebate depending on your level of cover.
