We have a dynamic team here at connect chiropractic with three chiropractors – Dr Kathleen Lawson, Dr Mai Huynh and Dr Jessica Crisp and four chiropractic assistants – Lisa, Maureen, Jessica and Jenny.

We are located in Noble Park, about 45 minutes South East of Melbourne CBD.

We take a holistic and patient-centred approach to health care. We recognise your individual circumstances and tailor care according to your needs. We serve you and your family as whole people, not just spines!

Our registered Chiropractors regularly undertake continuing professional development to keep up to date with the latest in chiropractic. They are active members of the CAA (Chiropractors’ Association of Australia) and also maintain strong networks with other health providers within the local community. Our doctors work with newborns, children and families, athletes, retirees – anyone with a spine!

Dr Kath has completed specialist post-graduate training in paediatrics, pregnancy and functional neurology. Dr Mai has a Bachelors degree in Biomedical Science and a Master in Clinical Chiropractic and has a strong interest in working with pregnant women and babies. Both Drs Kath and Mai are trained and certified in the Webster Technique. Dr Jessica has completed a Master in Clinical Chiropractic and is our resident sports chiropractor.

What is Chiropractic Care All About?

Chiropractic care is a natural approach to health that focuses on how your spine and nervous system relate to your overall vitality and wellbeing. Chiropractic emphasises the inborn power of the body to heal itself when the conditions both inside and around the body support it to do so. This is because the focus of care is your NERVOUS SYSTEM – this system controls and coordinates everything that happens in your body – from breathing, to your heart rate, to your reaction times and even how you learn.

Your spine and the conditions that affect its joints and muscles can impact on the rest of your body because of the changes this can cause to the nervous system and brain-to-cell communication. By supporting the spine to improve nervous system function, both your spinal and overall health can be improved.

Looking for a naturally Happy and Healthy Pregnancy? Heard of the Webster Technique?

Pregnant Mums can really benefit from regular gentle chiropractic care. Here’s how:-
  1. Allows the baby room to develop without restrictions to their forming spine and skull.
  2. Offers the baby room to move to ensure the best possible birth position, hence reducing the chance of a difficult labour and/or birth trauma.
  3. Prepares mum’s pelvis for an easier pregnancy and birth by creating balance in the pelvic bony structures, ligaments and muscles.
  4. Maximises the capacity of the muscular structures and uterus for better ‘Push Power’
  5. Removes tension on the ligaments that support the uterus – better biomechanics for you and your baby.
  6. Reduces interference to your nervous system – this is your MASTER SYSTEM - it controls and coordinates every tissue, cell and organ in your body.
  7. Gives you the best advantage for a safer and easier birth, decreasing the likelihood of intervention.

Our doctors are highly trained in specific pregnancy care including the Webster in-uterine constraint relief technique, as part of our high quality pregnancy care model. We also offer regular ‘Preparing for Birth’ information sessions for interested parents, to assist you in creating your birth plan, and to help you in gaining access to a range of other pregnancy, breastfeeding and infant care services.

Every baby can benefit from gentle chiropractic care too! How does Chiropractic care help your precious little one?

Birth (even the gentlest ones) can be traumatic for the baby with a lot of pressure being created in the upper neck and cranial areas, Babies can get their best chance to thrive with their first chiropractic check and gentle adjustments soon after birth.

Babies who have a weak suck reflex, have difficulty attaching to the breast, are unsettled, colicky or show flattening or asymmetry of the head, are in urgent need of chiropractic care. Uncorrected issues may lead to other problems later in life such as learning difficulties, behavioural issues, coordination problems etc.

We work to maximize your baby’s development potential by removing nerve interference and dural tension, which addresses many of the problems observed in some newborns. Difficult births aside, EVERY baby can benefit from a chiropractic check-up!

Maximising the potential of growing, learning bodies . . .

A child’s growth and development are DIRECTLY RELATED TO how well they are able to take in information and respond to their environment. Chiropractic care hones the processing done by the nervous system, opening the windows for neurological development, skill acquisition and achievement of developmental milestones. Statistics show that more than 50% of toddlers have fallen from a height of greater than 1 metre by the age of two. As a child learns to crawl, walk, run and play, the everyday ‘bumps and scrapes’ that they collect can build on each other, causing many little changes that add up to one BIG change in the nervous system and its adaptive ability. This can have all sorts of effects on a growing, learning body. That’s why we believe a chiropractic check-up is a great idea for EVERY child.

You and Your Family are welcome at our practice! We have a play area for the kids, a microwave oven to heat bottles, a baby change area, privacy for breastfeeding mums, and our staff are very happy to assist while you or your child is with the chiropractor.

We also offer Chiropractic Functional Neurology...

Chiropractors who use a functional neurology approach to treatment are highly trained and qualified experts of the brain and nervous system.

As in medicine, the chiropractic profession has specialists who serve their community’s patients, as well as providing expert evaluations and consultation to other physicians and practitioners.

Chiropractors who take on a functional neurology approach have continued with advanced postgraduate training and testing to be able to provide all the standard chiropractic services and additionally, the specialized services that their advanced training allows.

What makes a chiropractor who uses a functional neurology approach to treatment so special?

Because chiropractors who use a functional neurology approach often have great success treating patients for whom all other treatment methods have failed, people often ask, “What makes them so special?”
The distinguishing factor is the paradigm, or approach that the chiropractor uses toward diagnosis and treatment. In addition to evaluating for pathologies as medical doctors do; the chiropractor evaluates for subtle changes in the function of the nervous system. It is this expertise in detecting subtle changes in function that sets a chiropractor who utilises functional neurology apart from other specialists.

How is a chiropractor who uses a functional neurology approach to treatment different to a medical neurologist or a neurosurgeon?

Chiropractors who use a functional neurology approach to treatment, medical neurologists and neurosurgeons differ greatly in their methods of treatment.
The medical neurologist will prescribe medications or injections. The neurosurgeon uses surgery to correct a condition. The chiropractor who utilises a functional neurology approach uses medication free and non-surgical treatment methods.
Many conditions of the brain and nervous system do not respond well to aggressive interventions such as drug therapy or surgery. Additionally, the drug therapies used by medical neurologists, and the surgical interventions of the neurosurgeon often carry increased risks for serious complications or dangerous side effects.
For this reason, chiropractors who use a functional neurology approach to treatment fill a unique and significant role in treating brain and nervous system disorders using safe and effective methods producing lasting health benefits.

What conditions are chiropractors who use functional neurology approach to treatment familiar with?

All the conditions normally seen by chiropractors like pains from injuries caused by lifting, falls, sports injuries, auto accidents, etc plus:
  1. Headaches and chronic pain
  2. Learning and attention disorders
  3. Vertigo
  4. Developmental disorders
  5. Head injury or stroke
  6. Spinal cord and nerve injuries
  7. Movement disorders

What treatment methods do chiropractors who use a functional neurology approach use?

Chiropractic neurology treatment methods are safe, effective and can include a wide variety of tools such as:
  1. Chiropractic adjustments by hand or by instrument to the spine and/or extremities
  2. Eye exercises
  3. Balance and coordination activities
  4. Cognitive exercises and activities
  5. Sensory training that may include light, sound, smell, or touch
  6. Physical exercises
  7. Breathing exercises
  8. Biofeedback/Neuro feedback
  9. Nutritional modification
  10. And many others…
