SERVICES
CRANIO-SACRAL THERAPY
Cranio-sacral Therapy is a very gentle technique that is suitable for everyone. From new born babies to those in the prime of their life, through to the elderly.
The therapist uses very light touch to feel the flow of cranio-sacral fluid. The CS fluid is produced in the brain and passes down the spinal column to the sacrum at the base of the the spine. It is very important for, amongst other things, the transference of hormones and nutrients.
Tension and restrictions in the soft tissue of the body restrict the flow of CS fluid. Restrictions can also apply unnatural pressure on the bones which affect and are affected by the flow of CS fluid. This can be the cause of all manner of health problems. The nervous system, particularly the brain, is the most likely to be adversely affected. During a Cranio-sacral therapy session, the cranio-sacral fluid can be held or coerced to help free up those restrictions. Also, the tissue surrounding the bones can be relaxed, causing micro movement of the bones, helping to relieve pressure and thereby
allowing fluids and nerve impulses to move more freely. This results in improvements in the functioning of the body and mind.
Cranio-sacral Therapy gives an extremely relaxing sensation that is felt deeply within.
MAYAN ABDOMINAL MASSAGE
The Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy are centred around the ancient Mayan Techniques of repositioning the abdominal organs that have become displaced. The consequence of that is restrictions in the flow of blood and lymph and of the messages along the nerve pathways.
The massage is on the abdomen and lower back and is good for problems of the digestive system, but is especially noted for issues of the reproductive system. Women have reported reduced menstrual pain, increased fertility, and improvements in menopausal sysptoms, as well as many other problems in the pelvic and abdominal area.
MYOFASCIAL RELEASE
Muscles are surrounded by, and held in place by connective tissue.
One of the layers of this tissue has the quality that causes it to become fluid when pressure is applied. This allows for movement in the surrounding tissue, resulting in release of restrictions caused by scarring and adhesions.
During a treatment, the therapist maintains a comfortable pressure over the muscle, and follows the movement as the connective tissue loosens, releases, and seems to unwind.
Myofascial Release technique greatly improves the effectiveness of a massage treatment.
ACUPRESSURE
Acupressure is the use of points on the body which are located along channels of energy called meridians. The Chinese discovered these a very long time ago and have been using them in the practice of Acupuncture ever since.
During an Acupressure treatment, pressure is applied on the points achieving a wide range of effects, sometimes on seemingly unrelated parts of the body.
AROMATHERAPY MASSAGE
Aromatherapy Massage is the use of Essential oils that are added to the base oil which is used to carry out a massage. Essential oils, derived from plants, are very concentrated substances that have beneficial therapeutic effects.
The oils that are extracted from the plants are used in their entireity, rather than isolating an active ingredient as is done with medical drugs. This means that their chemical make-up is complex, as is that of the human body. The body's response is therefore able to be more complex and complete. Consequently, each oil has many uses, so, for example, you may get a sedating effect as well as an anti-inflammatory effect.
Aromatherapy oils are used in a very diluted form, and, for many conditions, the benefits would best be gained when used on a regular basis. The use of Aromatherapy oils during a massage can, however, significantly increase the benefits that a massage alone gives. Some of these being, relaxation, improvements in blood and lymph circulation, digestion, mood and and a general sense of wellbeing.
TOUCH FOR HEALTH (Kinesiology)
Touch For Health is a branch of Kinesiology that utilizes several different techniques to improve overall health.
Problems in any part of the body are reflected in reduced neuro-muscular efficiency.
Individual muscles are tested on a person by their offering resistance as the therapist applies light pressure. This is not to test for strength, rather the ability of the muscle to carry out it's function. Corrections are made that have an effect on the whole body, not just the muscular system.
DISABILITY MASSAGE
Experience as a Care Worker has resulted in an interest in providing massages for people with disabilities.
If you can get onto a massage table or would like a seated massage in your wheel chair, you can come to the Eden Hills clinic. The toilet is not wheelchair accessable and the clinic door width is 720mm. If it is not possible to make the trip, massages can be done in your own home on a portable table or in your chair.
INFRARED SAUNA
Infrared saunas are reputed to help with many conditions. Some of these are; aches and pains in the muscles and joints, increase in recovery rate from soft tissue injuries and improved blood circulation.
A sauna before a massage helps with relaxation of the muscles and increases the effectiveness of the massage. Tissues stretched when heated maintain that lengthening more than when cold.
You may prefer to just have a sauna with no massage. No shower is taken immediately, allowing the body to maintain the warmth for at least an hour and a half afterwards. While you may choose to continue on with your daily activities or just relax, you could go home and do some stretching exercises to utilize that warmth.
