Naturopathy & You
Naturopathy ... there are many natural therapies that fall under the heading of complementary and alternative medicine (known as CAM for short). Naturopathy is one such therapy.
Complementary ... naturopathy may be considered a “complementary medicine” as there may be times when you wish to be treated using conventional medicine as well as naturopathy. For example, some medications prescribed by your doctor may lead to the depletion of certain nutrients which I can help you to identify and source.
Alternative ... there may be some conditions where you are seeking an alternative method to conventional medicine. For example, the oral contraceptive pill may have been prescribed to you to regulate your periods but you’re starting to wonder if there might be an alternative way to manage them.
Medicine ... naturopathy uses herbs, nutritional supplements, flower essences, dietary change, particular foods to be taken as medicines and lifestyle advice as treatment options.
Principles of Naturopathy ... naturopathy integrates conventional science and traditional medicines and is based on some inherent principles –
~ It is used to identify and remove obstacles which are preventing you from restoring, maintaining or reaching optimal health and does so using means which are close to nature
~ When you present with a particular set of symptoms not only will we treat them but we'll also look for their underlying causes so we can treat those too
~ “Doing no harm” is paramount. Just because something is natural doesn’t guarantee it is safe and as your naturopath I will give due consideration to ensuring your natural prescriptions are not negatively interacting with any medications you may already be taking or likely to cause adverse effects
~ I love sharing knowledge gained and as your naturopath I aim to empower you to make informed choices that feel right for you
~ Treating the whole person – a thorough case history is taken so that we can consider all sorts of things that may be impacting your health e.g. diet, lifestyle, past medical history, family history and anything else that may be going on for you
~ Prevention – lots of disease can be prevented and sometimes it comes down to increasing your knowledge and then introducing sustainable changes into your life. I can assist you to understand risk factors and how you can manage them
Getting started ... give me a call on 0411 325 208 to make an appointment or to have a chat to determine whether a naturopathic consultation feels like the right thing for you.
