CHINESE MEDICINE
Chinese Medicine treatments provided will give you the best combination of acupuncture, cupping, moxibustion, gua sha, food therapy and patent herbal medicines for your condition. Each and every treatment you receive is uniquely tailored to your body's state of being for that particular day. You can rest assured that your body will be grateful as you are carefully nurtured to your highest health potential.
Pregnant women, lactating mothers, children and those will allergies can all safely take properly prescribed Chinese medicine treatment.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture involves the insertion of very fine acupuncture needles into specific locations on the body. The aim of treatment is to stimulate and harmonise the flow of energy (Qi) throughout the body - which then restores a greater sense of health and wellbeing. Acupuncture needles are much finer than regular medical needles and generally insertion is not painful. Most people report an initial tingling sensation followed by a calm and relaxed feeling during the treatment. Acupuncture treatment is very safe, and practitioners at our clinic only ever use single-use, high quality disposable acupuncture needles
Acupressure
Acupressure uses therapeutic pressure applied to acupuncture points. It is prescribed according to the same principles as acupuncture.
Cupping
Cupping involves the application of a glass vacuum cup to certain locations of the body. It is commonly applied to the back, but can be applied to other areas of the body. Cupping treatments are good for treatment of common cold and bronchitis. Muscle tension can be relieved by cupping, and is often used when treating back, neck and shoulder pain.
Moxibustion
Moxibustion is performed using a moxa stick which gently warm the skin and stimulates the flow of energy through the body. It is often used in treatment of conditions that are worse in colder weather, and treatment of chronic illness.
Herbal Medicine
Chinese Herbal medicine comes in many forms and traditionally involved boiling a pot of herbs on the stove to prepare a decoction. The preparation of decoction is often quite time consuming. Herbal pills and granulated extracts are more convenient modern alternatives to decoction. Whilst a very small proportion of Chinese herbal preparations contain mineral and animal based constituents, no endangered species are ever prescribed at our clinic. Special dietary requirements such as gluten-free and vegan are easily accommodated - discuss with your practitioner alternatives that are available to you.
Granulated Herbal Formulas are individually tailored to suit your unique set of signs and symptoms. They mix with hot water and are taken as a tea.
Pill and capsule formulas are used for more commonly seen conditions, and are convenient to take.
Food Therapy
Food Therapy is the prescription of food cures for certain health conditions. There are no "one size fits all" answers to anything in Chinese Medicine, and food therapy is no exception. Foods that are good for one person's health may be the exact foods that exacerbate another person's health condition. Foods are often prescribed as a supplement to acupuncture or herbal medicine treatment, and is something that can help the patient to become more active in their recovery. Recipes for self healing then become part of the patient's own first-aid kit against disease.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Does acupuncture hurt?
The needles that are used during an acupuncture treatment are extremely fine, and are inserted using a guide tube to ensure painless insertion. Many people find acupuncture so relaxing that they will fall asleep during treatment.
Can I apply for a rebate through my health insurance?
Acupuncture is covered by extras or ancillary cover with your private health insurance provider. Your eligiblity to claim for acupuncture, and the rebate amount you will receive will depend on the level of cover that you have.
What if there is nothing wrong with me?
Since the origin of Chinese Medicine 5000 years ago, the prevention of illness and disease has always been a central theme. You do not need to have a specific health concern to benefit from Chinese Medicine treatment.
How does acupuncture work?
Chinese Medicine theory centres around the concept of energy flowing through the body. When the energy flow is impeded or imbalanced in any way, illness will ensue. Acupuncture works by correcting the balance and flow of energy throughout the body, thereby resolving illness and disharmony.
Preliminary research has been performed to show that certain acupuncture points have a direct effect on:
increasing white blood cell count
regulating blood pressure
regulating the release of neurotransmitters such as serotonin and dopamine
stimulating the release of pain-relief neurotransmitters such as endorphins and enkephalins
regulating the levels of adrenaline and cortisol
regulating the motility of the gastrointestinal tract
It is still early days, as the mechanism by which acupuncture regulates these processes has so far not been discovered - although many theories have been put forward. At our clinic, we keep abreast of the latest in research. Ask us next time you come in for an appointment about the latest research into your health condition.
