Chiropractic

What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is the world’s largest natural, non-surgical and medication free health care profession in the world. Doctors of chiropractic are primary contact practitioners, this means that you don’t need a referral for a consultation.

The word Chiropractic literally means ‘to do by hand’. It has been traced back to the time of the ancient Greeks and the early days of medicine. Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine looked to the spine to remove dis-ease. In 1898, a man named D. D. Palmer discovered the true effect of nerve pressure from spinal dysfunction when he cured a janitor from deafness with a specific chiropractic adjustment.

Nowadays, chiropractic is the most heavily researched natural healthcare profession in the world. It has proven to be a gentle, safe and highly effective healing art for all ages and many conditions. It is thoroughly researched and supported by scientific evidence.

Chiropractic has a unique philosophy in that it focuses on the cause of your problem. It aims to restore your nervous function, allowing the natural healing ability of your body to fight and prevent disease.

The medical approach is different. It uses drugs that travel through your bloodstream to change the way your body works. For example: Laxatives to speed up elimination and antacids to reduce stomach acid. Besides the side effects, possible kidney damage and fatal mistakes, drugs often ignore the real cause of your problem.

Benefits
Many people seek chiropractic care for joint and muscular pain. Although great results are achieved with these problems, chiropractic can help a wider range of other conditions, including:

  • Stress

  • Constipation

  • Headaches

  • Miagraines

  • Sinusitis

  • Bed wetting

  • Disc pain

  • Indigestion / heartburn

  • Colic

  • Colic

  • Sprains & strains

  • Breathing difficulties

  • Carpel tunnel syndrome

  • Arthritis

  • Sleeping problems

  • Tennis elbow

  • Pins & needles

  • Tinnitus

  • Frozen shoulder

  • Numbness

  • Dizziness

  • Rotator cuff injuries

  • Sciatica

  • Hay fever

  • Poor posture

  • Menstrual pain
Everyone should get their spine checked. Only 10% of your nerves perceive pain, the other 90% are what makes your body function. It is possible to have pressure on your nerves and feel no pain. By the time someone is in pain, spinal problems can be quite advanced. Just as a heart attack is not the first sign of heart problems.

Other Services

Podiatry
Podiatry is the health profession dedicated to the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of medical conditions of the feet and lower limbs.

Our feet are very complex – they house a quarter of the bones in our body as well as a network of muscles, ligaments and joints. They are our main mode of transport, carrying us on a journey of 128,000 kilometres in a lifetime – the equivalent to three times around the world. Yet our feet are often the most neglected and forgotten part of our bodies. They are vulnerable to injury and disease and as our feet suffer wear, they cannot be replaced like a pair of shoes.

Naturopathy
Naturopathy is a distinct system of primary health-care based on the principles of holism and vitalism. It involves the practice of preventing, diagnosing and treating various conditions affecting the human mind and body – including emotional complaints. Aside from restoring health and averting illness, natural medicine attempts to establish optimal wellbeing by supporting an individual’s inherent self-healing process, known as “vis medicatrix naturae”. It is the catalyst for restoring an individual’s overall health and vitality by stimulating the various systems of the body to re-establish inherent balance and harmony.

Natural medicine concerns itself with the mental, emotional, spiritual and physical elements of an individual and seeks to treat the causes of ill-health and disease triggered by genetic predisposition, psychosocial influences, lifestyle, pollution and dietary imbalances. A naturopath therefore not only acts as a physician remedying the entire being, but also as an educator, helping the client to identify the uniqueness of their own health patterns and fostering autonomy for one’s self-care and wellbeing.

Myotherapy
Myotherapy (Muscle therapy), is a hands-on, effective approach to relieving symptoms associated with muscular pain and dysfunction, ranging from chronic pain, decreased range of movement, to acute injuries. As a Myotherapist, I utilise massage (shallow, deep or trigger point), dry needling, cupping, electromechanical stimulation (TENS), corrective exercise and education.

Massage
Massage is the practice of soft tissue manipulation with physical (anatomical), functional (physiological), and in some cases psychological purposes and goals. The word comes from the French massage "friction of kneading", or from Arabic massa meaning "to touch, feel or handle" or from Latin massa meaning "mass, dough".

Massage involves acting on and manipulating the body with pressure – structured, unstructured, stationary, or moving – tension, motion, or vibration, done manually or with mechanical aids. Target tissues may include muscles, tendons, ligaments, skin, joints, or other connective tissue, as well as lymphatic vessels, or organs of the gastrointestinal system. Massage can be applied with the hands, fingers, elbows, knees, forearm, and feet.

In professional settings massage involves the client being treated while lying on a massage table, sitting in a massage chair, or lying on a mat on the floor. The massage subject may be fully or partly unclothed. Parts of the body may be covered with towels or sheets.
