I often meet people with poor postural and movement habits that contribute to excess fatigue, pain and/or underperformance.
These poor habits can be a result of many factors, including
physiological and neurological development injury and/or painbad ergonomicslack of physical stimulation movement habits learnt from birthcompensatory habits to cope with physical conditions/limitationsmuscle imbalances resulting from occupational/sporting situations

Your body should be balanced and symmetrical left to right, front to back, and top to bottom. Long strong muscles maximize flexibility and strength, thereby reducing stress throughout the body.
Private tuition enables close supervision of individually tailored sessions to maximize your results. Continuous assessment enables the creation of a tailored and intelligent movement program to more accurately meet your goals and needs. To ensure a safe and appropriate program your goals, medical history, posture and movement are initially assessed and reviewed at each appointment.
This approach requires as much mental as physical application on your part. There is a strong focus on the mind body connection.
My approach to the Pilates Method is to stay as true to the original work as possible whilst maintaining best practice using todays knowledge in exercise science and human movement.
Joseph Pilates originally had a repertoire of only 36 floor exercises. He believed that a fit healthy person could perform all 36 exercises as described in his book. The equipment that he designed was developed to assist people who had difficulty to work up to that level of ability.
Joseph practiced his teaching in a small New York studio in a private and/or semi private environment. Unfortunately due to economics and convenience some of the philosophy and intent behind his work has been lost to group training of varying numbers and standards.
“in ten sessions you will feel the difference, in twenty you will see the difference, and in thirty you will have a whole new body”
Joseph H Pilates
The GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® methods are a perfect complement to the Pilates Method.
GYROTONIC® training is performed on specialized equipment.
GYROKINESIS® training, initially known as yoga for dancers, is the floor version of this work. Both styles improve flexibility, muscle tone, joint articulation, range of motion, stamina, balance, blood circulation and core strength
The
GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® methods work the body in a fluid, three dimensional, circular manner; simultaneously stretching, strengthening and energizing the body.
Each exercise flows smoothly through flexion and extension, contraction and expansion, working from the center out to the extremities to build internal and external strength. These subtle spiralling and twisting motions are combined with rhythmic breathing and conscious body awareness for a revitalizing mind/body workout.
My intent is to have you leave each session feeling stronger, more flexible, invigorated, refreshed and aware of your body.
