About Elizabeth Addie

My passion is to help people to live meaningful lives with happy and respectful relationships. I have worked for the last 11 years as a professional counsellor and for five years prior to this a school careers counsellor; and I have helped many people to achieve their goals in life, improve their relationships and create happier lives for themselves and their families.

I am enjoying working in private practice. I can offer you the best possible service to meet your needs, and tailor the counselling program specifically for you and your family. Many of my clients are referrals from other clients and I welcome feedback. Please have a look at my testimonials.

I have a commitment to lifelong learning and am constantly studying and undertaking professional development to improve my skills and knowledge.

Many people do not know that counsellors must have regular professional supervision from accredited highly trained supervisors, in order to maintain their professional registration. My supervisor is Glen Guy, BA, Dip Psych. MEd Studies, MEd; one of the most experienced and highly regarded counselling supervisors and trainers in Queensland.

My membership is: MQCA Assoc. and PACFA Reg. Provisional. PACFA is the peak body for the counselling profession in Australia.

Counselling Specialisations

Narrative Family Therapy: I have been training in narrative therapy for the last 11 years and this is my therapeutic approach for relationships and family counselling. I have been fortunate to have trained with the international leaders: Michael White, David Epston, Johnella Bird, Jill Freedman and others. Narrative therapy is a dynamic approach which helps people to separate problems from their identities and to build on their own strengths and abilities to resolve problems.

Mental Health for Young People: I have over 10 years extensive training in how best to promote well being for young people in all aspects of their lives. I am an accredited facilitator of the Resilient Adolescent Program (RAP) and an accredited trainer and facilitator of the Seasons Loss and Grief Program.

Emotional Release Therapy: I have been training for the last two years in sand play therapy which is an excellent approach for counselling with children; and also can assist adults with resolving issues of grief, loss and trauma.

Career Pathways Counselling: I have helped young people and adults to create meaningful career pathways for over 16 years. I have developed career pathway programs for school and TAFE students and have full understanding of all the educational opportunities which can be used as the equivalent of finishing school or to upgrade qualifications. I follow best practice in career counselling and keep up to date with educational and employment developments.

Testimonials

We came to see Elizabeth to discuss our son's challenging behaviours. We both felt comfortable talking to Elizabeth and she raised issues that we could openly discuss. I hadn't realised some of the things I was doing until my husband had pointed them out and Elizabeth channelled the discussion in a positive way. She took the time to listen and it was good to know that she was available to talk to us . She was very friendly, open, non-judgemental and so positive. S & N.

From our session with Elizabeth we realised that we were both busy. We learnt to listen to each other more and take time out for each other; trying to understand what the other person is saying rather than just shutting them down. Elizabeth was a very effective counsellor. She explained things very well so that we could both understand. She was very calm and kept the session light, not deep and dark. E & T.
