Lynda's Story
It's such an honor to be present at another womans birth, to help them birth into the next stage of life into motherhood. I love it.
My passion for birth began with my own journey to motherhood, I was a single mum and carrying twins, I found the amazing support of a group of independent midwifes, this was in London 1994. My first birth experience was incredible, I felt like a goddress, all powerful, primal and so connected, it felt as if I'd been plugged into the direct current of pure love.
In contrast, my second pregnancy and birth to my third child was not so wonderful, it became very medicalized, I was encouraged to take drugs, I felt powerless, misguided, and as a consequence suffered with postnatal depession, no fun with a new baby and three year old twins.
If my experiences and knowledge as a therapist, yoga teacher and mother can help other woman, feel supported on their own journey through pregnancy birth and beyond to motherhood, then I’m delighted, it makes sence to me, sharing my passion, passing on knowledge, after all isn't thats what its all about?

As a doula, I believe that all women deserve to be safe, supported, respected and nurtured, so they feel empowered and confident to find an inner strength to birth their baby. I also believe that they need a strong support team during pregnancy, birth and the post natal period. The type of support I provide varies depending on your individual needs but may include massage, relaxation, positioning, breathing techniques, sounding, aromatherapy, reflexology and music. I am a passionate advocate for reclaiming women’s trust in their innate wisdom to birth and raise their children consciously.
I am not in a position to make the same unique contributions your partner makes. I am there in addition to, not instead of your partner. Together we complement each other’s strengths, providing continuity of care and a stable and known presence which helps to create a safe haven and intimate space. With your needs taken care of you can focus on your labour, to ensure you have a safe and satisfying birth - as you define it. A “good birth” is usually defined by how you feel during and after the birth. You don’t leave your birth at the hospital you take it with you; birth impacts on how you feel postnatally, and for the rest of your life.
Below is a guide to the standard doula package, but this is flexible to cater for what works best for yourself and your partner.
As your doula, I will:
Meet with you and your partner, this introductory meeting will give us a clear idea if we can to work together, my role as a doula and how I can best suppport your individual needs. This meeting is free of obligation and charge.
Then, meet with you for two antenatal visits during your pregnancy to discuss your birth plan, pain management options, active birth positions and any desires, fears, questions you may have, these meetings are in the comfort of your own home.
Be on call for two weeks either side of your due date and I am available for phone/email/SMS support throughout your pregnancy whenever required.
Support you at your birth from whenever and wherever you require me (home, Labour ward or birth centre) until your baby is born and you no longer need my assistance.
There are two post-natal home visits after the birth once you and your baby are both settled to debrief your birthing experience and support you with anything else you may require such as breastfeeding, sleep and settling etc.

Dear Lynda, coming to the close of my first twelve months of motherhood it is important to me to express my gratitude to you who have, knowingly or not, supported, nurtured and helped me manage this transition and some of the challenges that come with it.
I started your mum's and bub's classes when my daughter, Carys was around five months old. I received from these what I probably needed most at the time, to feel cared for and nurtured through the thoughtful way you structured and ran your classes. The opportunity to share, to be listened to and also to give our attention to others felt non-Judgemental, respectful and important.
the relaxation part of your class where you offered to look after some babies so mothers can really relax is a thoughtful and generous gift. Throughout the class itself Carys and I established a happy connection of fun, engagement and interaction for the first time. Our relationship grew and cemented from there and continues to give me much joy. Through these classes I developed a closer relationship with my daughter, and also yoga. I am immensely grateful to have had the opportunity to attend your classes, and others at Samadhi, Particularly through some of the challenging times of my first year as a mum. Thank you for thinking to do these classes for mothers and in such a way to makes a difference to my personal experience.
Namasta, thank you Emily Brennan. August 2009.
Dear Lynda, Thank you so much for your guidance at yoga. Many things you have said impacted me during my pregnancy and my early stages of motherhood. I will continue the yoga at home with Iris so there is still a little Lynda in our lives ( I must since I have seen you once a week for fifteen months). we are glad to have been touched by the beautiful aura that is Lynda, much love, Shells & Iris. October 2009.
To Lynda, thank you for the loan of the book and all the beautiful messages in the pre-natal classes. We had a beautiful baby boy on the 13th September Finn, just adjusting to it all and will be back at yoga soon. take care Melinda. September 2008.
Lynda, I just wanted to say a big thank you for all your kindness, support and encouragement. It has been such a privilege to be part og your classes from pre-natal to mum's and bub's, and it has made a huge difference to my journey through pregnancy and into motherhood. I really appreciate the energy you put into each class and the care you show for each person. thanks again Love Beck & Joshua. May 2011.
For Lynda with Infinite love and eternal thanks for helping us make Noahs entry into this world so peaceful. All the best wishes for your future endeavours! Dini, Pablo and Noah. xx July 2011
When my wife Kelli gave birth in May 2011, we chose Lynda to be our doula. We'd already met Lynda through Kel's pregnancy yoga classes and felt an affinity with her calm, convivial manner. After a couple of the yoga sessions we had a few informal meetings with Lynda about doula-ing for us. Through that consultation she was able to speak expansively yet clearly about childbirth, what our options were, in doing so she helped us to understand what we wanted out of the birth. She was never assumptive about the presence of a doula, let alone herself, in our plans and wishes.
The decision to ask Lynda to be present at the birth was very easy indeed.
The birth itself was very lengthy, spanning five days. Over that time Lynda a godsend. She gave her time over each and every day, pro-actively phoning us and making herself available. When we were writing the birth plan Lynda had suggested using essential oils, and, with her background in aromatherapy, she'd made some for us. Her massages in the early stages of labour were one of the most effective pain relief methods we used.
Overall, she did an amazing job of being a real rock of support for us, there throughout the hardest stages of the birth, whilst allowing us emotional space to make our decisions as we went through the process
I would want to highlight in particular Lynda's involvement in the final stages of labour. Our little boy Elijah was, eventually, born by caesarian section. On the morning it happened, Lynda had agreed to stay with Kel whilst her mother and I went to get some breakfast. Whilst we were gone Kel went into shock, and it was Lynda's calm, assured manner and emotional intelligence that helped Kel stay calm in our absence. Amid the high emotions that preceded us going for the c-section, Lynda was the only cool head in the room that remembered various key elements of our birth plan.
Afterwards, she was even on hand to take photographs of the baby!
I would have complete confidence in recommending Lynda to any other prospective parents. Dan Robertson August 2011
Lynda,
Thank you so much for making our pregnancy, labor and delivery the perfect experience. From the first time we met with you we both felt immediately relieved in knowing we had your guidance and support through what is truly one of the most mysterious things anyone can go through.
I know the word Doula comes from the Ancient Greek, meaning female slave, but that definition couldn’t be further from the truth. Our experience with you was one filled with such wisdom and support, and ultimately enabled a truly joyful experience in the birth of our son, Arthur. I felt nothing but strength, love and encouragement while laboring, and it seemed that at every moment through that intense period, everything I needed was there – without me needing to ask for it, or even really knowing what it was. You reminded me of the millions of women who had labored before me, and I found strength in that history, and joy in that shared experience.
Your support allowed us to persevere with our choice of a natural birth, even through the complications that were thrown up in pre-labor, and then the early stages of labor. I remember quite early on, when there was talk of inducement, saying to Alex that I wanted to experience the feeling of childbirth, that it was something that was important to me. I think without your support we would have lost sight of that goal and not brought our son into the world in the way we wanted. For that we are both eternally grateful, and feel so privileged to have had you there as part of Arthur’s birth.
I would recommend you as a doula to any and everyone lucky enough to be embarking on the magnificent journey of child birth.
All our love,
Eliza, Alex and Arthur.
PS. Special mention needs to go to your dedication! You were there throughout my false starts with homeopathy, aromatherapy, nettle tea, massage, pressure points and general support. Even more remarkably, you came to our house at 10pm on your birthday and didn’t leave our side until well into your husband’s birthday. I can’t believe you did that, but am so thankful you did as I really couldn’t imagine a better birthing experience.
