Traditional Chinese Medicine
Chinese medicine dates back almost 5,000 years where its basic concepts were established in a time when people lived closer to nature and the changing seasons. Chinese Medicine believes that the many different facets in our lives contribute to our overall health by looking at the big picture, showing us that health problems cannot be viewed in isolation. Traditional Chinese Medicine encompasses the whole person: your physical, emotional and spiritual dimensions– and the patterns of disharmony (symptoms) that arise when one of these factors is out of balance. It then uses various Chinese principles of bringing balance to your body’s constitution. These include:
Acupuncture
Chinese Medicine
Chinese Cupping
Moxibustion
UNDERSTANDING QI
Qi (pronounced “chee”) is the universal life force or vital energy. It is the potential energy within all living things, from plants to humans. The strength of our Qi determines our health, longevity and vitality. When Qi is in harmony we enhance and preserve not just our health but also our capacity for fulfillment, happiness and well-being. Qi is responsible for all processes in the body such as moving blood and body fluids to nourish our internal organs, enriching blood and facilitating the healing of injuries and physical aliments—as well as transformation in energy states, which can help balance our mind and emotions. We all need to work at keeping our Qi in top condition for maximum health benefits. This may involve alterations to our lifestyle, or taking herbs to rebalance a disharmony (ill-health).
Qi flows through Meridians (channels) running vertically, bilaterally, and symmetrically within the body. They act as a network in linking and interconnecting our body functions. Meridians also run over the surface of our body, which join to internal pathways connecting with body organs. This means if our internal organs aren’t functioning properly, sore points can occur on the surface of our body in various acupuncture points. So consequently by treating points just beneath the surface of the skin, the function of the body is altered and the flow of Qi is re-established.
How ACUPUNCTURE Works
Acupuncture is a stream of Chinese Medicine in which very fine (disposable) needles are inserted into various acupuncture points on meridians. The treatment works by increasing the flow of Qi in some areas, or redirecting opposing Qi in other areas (i.e.: vomiting & reflux, which represents Qi flowing in the wrong direction). All treatments aim to create balance of Yin and Yang so that your Qi, blood and body fluids are in constant state of harmony. As the accumulative effect of balance is re-established, a person experiences a sense of grounding energy and the ability to deal with life’s situations more effectively. The eventual healing can be quite profound. Acupuncture can be used for almost any ailment or condition involving Physical, Mental or Emotional Disharmony.

RELAXATION AND MEDITATION TECHNIQUES
Traditional Chinese Philosophies use relaxation and meditation as part of it’s daily practice. As our channels unblock and our Qi (energy) flows freely, each organ responds by working in harmony with each other. Acupuncture treatments encompasses relaxation techniques, which will assist in opening the channels, and leaving you tension free, and the feeling of mind-body Connection. As you progress into the treatments you will also naturally readapt the ability to balance your daily stresses.
NATUROPATHY
Naturopathy deals with internal health problems, including metabolic disorders and imbalances. A Naturopath places emphasis on a preventative approach to healing and treating the cause/s of a disease state and the body as a whole. ‘Prevention is always better than cure’.

to heal naturally, however caught in today’s fast paced environment we can sometimes leave ourselves physically, mentally and emotionally imbalanced.

DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE
Deep Tissue Massage focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue. When there is chronic muscle tension or injury, there are usually adhesions (bands of painful, rigid tissue) in muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Adhesions can restrict circulation, cause pain, inflammation and limit your body’s mobility.
Deep tissue massage works by physically breaking down these adhesions to relieve pain and restore normal movement. The massage therapist uses compression and friction techniques along the grain of the muscle. The purpose of this is to spread the muscles fibres and release both toxins and deeply held tension points. By spreading muscle fibres you will also increase the flow of oxygenated blood to the painful areas, which will facilitate with healing. Deep Tissue Massage is both corrective and therapeutic. It is beneficial for many physical problems, including sports injuries and chronic pain.

SPORTS MASSAGE
The main purpose of sports massage is to help alleviate the stress and tension, which builds up in the body’s soft tissues during physical activity. With overexertion and/or overuse of a muscle minor injuries and lesions occur, which can also affect the body’s mobility and range. By using Sports Massage techniques such as; needing compressions, friction, muscle drainage and stretching these will enable the muscle to regain full potential. Sports massage primarily focuses on the management, manipulation and rehabilitation of the body's soft tissues. The massage will help prepare the athlete for peak performance, to drain away fatigue, to relieve swelling, to reduce muscle tension, to promote flexibility and to prevent injuries. Sports massage can help prevent those niggling injuries that so often get in the way of performance and achievement, whether a person is an athlete or someone who simply suffers from overexertion and overuse no matter what their profession. Trigger point therapy is used in conjunction most other massage styles.
