Massage – what do YOU need to know….

Massage is a wonderful bodywork tool that assists clients through:
• reducing pain and discomfort associate with muscle tension
• releasing neuromuscular holding patterns
• increasing circulation
• decreasing stress hormones and increasing ‘feel good’ hormones
• assisting with anxiety and sleep difficulties
• improving recovery times following illness or sporting events
• decreasing lymphatic fluid retention either due to poor circulation or cancer treatments
• increasing immunity and overall wellbeing.

Sound too good to be true? Well you probably need to try it for yourself. We see hundreds of people each month who rely on massage to assist them to cope with everyday stresses in this overly busy world we live in.

Booking your appointment…

You need to book an appointment to be treated at our clinic, therefore by telephone or email is the best option for booking. Generally you can be seen in the same week, but if you need to get in urgently make sure you go on our CANCELLATION LIST. We'll call you as soon as we get a cancellation if you are unable to get the appointment you want today.

If you are in the early stages of pregnancy or have an illness you are unsure about, please let our receptionist know. She will advise you of our policies so that you can see whether we can treat you at that particular time.

You MUST advise us if you are:
• pregnant
• needing lymphatic drainage
• booking in for an aromatherapy treatment
• have an ongoing illness/injury, or
• using a gift voucher.

If you tell us this when you book your appointment, we can ensure you are booked in with the most appropriate therapist for your requirements.

When you have an appointment at the clinic, we would appreciate you arriving FIVE MINUTES before your appointment time. This ensures you get your full appointment and allows any paperwork or queries to be sorted out.

What to expect at your first massage….

If you have never had a massage before, this information may be of assistance to you. It can be a nerve-racking time for some clients and our therapists pride themselves on taking the time to get to know their clients and build up trust which assists with the results of the massage treatment.

1. When you come in for your first appointment, you will be asked to complete a confidential client information form. This gives us a bit of background about your health and allows us to treat you in the most effective manner.

2. Your therapist will introduce themselves to you and take you through to one of our four treatment rooms. Here they will have a look at your client form and chat to you about what you want to achieve from your massage and any problems you are having.

3. Your therapist will then instruct you to remove your clothes, leaving your underwear on, lie face down (usually) on the massage table and cover yourself with the provided towel. She will leave the room to obtain heat packs whilst you get yourself ready and comfortable.

4. During your massage, the therapist will continually check with you regarding your comfort and level of pressure for the massage. Please remember it is YOUR massage and we are trained to release tight muscles, but if anything is too uncomfortable, we really need you to let us know. If you provide feedback to us, we can assist you to benefit greatly from your massage. We firmly believe that everyone’s comfort levels differ and we want to provide you with the best experience when you visit our clinic.

5. After your massage you will be provided with post-massage information about looking after yourself and you may be provided with some stretches or sometimes referral to another healthcare professional. Please make sure you follow up with the suggested treatments so you can gain optimum benefit from your treatment.

Sometimes we can’t massage you…..

Occasionally when you come in for your appointment, we may not be able to treat you. The main reasons for non-treatment are:
• Illness involving high temperatures such as influenza/tonsilitis
• Early cancer detection
• Open wounds
• Broken bones, or if we feel you are too ill to treat.

If there is ever a case where we can’t treat you, we will explain the circumstances fully. This non-treatment is for your benefit as well as all of our clients and staff - we value your business and want to ensure your experience is as positive as possible - you are our valued client. Massage is a very powerful tool and we want to ensure that it only benefits you and does not expose you to any harm.

In the event this occurs, our friendly receptionist, will reschedule your appointment for you.

Treatments available at Essential Body Approach

Pregnancy Massage

Assist your body to adjust to the major changes pregnancy imposes on it. A pregnancy massage can be remedial (to cope with pain), relaxing or a combination or both. As your pregnancy progresses, our qualified therapists can perform massage in-utero on your baby. Your unborn baby will love the feel of massage and (usually!) they go to sleep!!
