Can Natural Fertility Management work for me?

What does a Doula do?

Doula is an ancient Greek word meaning ‘woman’s servant’ which is now known as a ‘professional birth support woman’.

How can a Doula help me?

If you are pregnant and thinking about your birth support team you may wish to consider the benefits of having a trained Doula (listed below). Partners have found the presence of a Doula during labour and birth is a great support to them also.

Research has shown the benefits of having a doula at your birth:

• Shorter labour
• Reduced caesarean rate
• Reduced epidural & pain relief use
• Reduced forceps & vacuum delivery
• Greater sense of security, control and reduced anxiety
• Improved breastfeeding experience, greater maternal satisfaction, better mother-infant interaction
• Decreased incidence of postpartum depression

What are my commitments to you as your Doula?

I commit to being available on and around your due date, so am on 24 hour 'standby' for 2 weeks either side of that date. I will come to you at home or in the hospital/birth centre as soon as you need me.
I support your choices and decisions, whatever the experience you desire or require.
I work alongside your health care professionals, welcoming them to contact me prior to labour if necessary.
I support your partner to be as fully available to you as possible. I respect the intimate experience you will share together.
