Jenny is an experienced Naturopath, Herbalist and Natural Fertility Practitioner with a special interest in fertility and reproductive health.
Fertility Matters
Welcome
Hi I’m Jenny Mitchell. I’ve been practicing as a Naturopath and Herbalist since graduating from the Australian College of Natural Medicine in 1999. In 2002 I completed a Certificate in Natural Fertility Management and soon after, founded “Fertility Matters” a practice specialising in fertility and reproductive health. I feel privileged to have assisted so many clients conceive and deliver healthy babies.
If you’re trying to conceive you’re certainly not alone. Today many women and their partners find that conceiving is not as easy as they thought. Over the past six years I have noticed more women with polycystic ovarian syndrome coming to the clinic for assistance, as well as men with fertility problems. Did you know that of the assisted reproductive technology cycles (e.g. IVF) in 2005, 27% were due to male infertility (AIHW 2006)?
Modern research tells us that lifestyle issues such as diet, stress and body weight can influence our fertility and the health of future generations. At Fertility Matters you will receive a personalised program designed to improve your health and address your fertility concerns. Having completed a Master of Health Science degree, I am committed to providing you with a program based on the latest research. Whether you are preparing to, or currently trying to conceive naturally or with the assistance of IVF, you can still benefit from a Fertility Matters assessment.
Personalised programs
Each client is treated as an individual. Personalised treatment plans include dietary and lifestyle advice, herbal and nutritional medicine. Prior to your first visit I will email or post a comprehensive questionnaire. This enables me to assess your general health, menstrual cycle and medical history. At the first visit we will discuss your case in detail and I may recommend further tests and/or referral to a medical specialist where appropriate. Many of my clients are under the care of a specialist, and the support I provide will be tailored to complement your current medical care. Because of my preference for evidence based practice, I do not use methods such as iridology.
After the first visit, follow up visits are scheduled every 4-8 weeks, depending on your health needs. I find the best results are obtained with regular contact so that we can adjust your program as your health status improves.
Nutrition
While some aspects of your fertility may be beyond your control, e.g. age, others such as a healthy diet are manageable and achievable! Are you confused about what to eat and what not to eat? At Fertility Matters your program includes specific recommendations to support your fertility. While there are fertility ‘superfoods’ which can be beneficial for us all, other recommendations will be specific for your needs. Polycystic ovarian syndrome, endometriosis or poor sperm quality can all be improved using specific foods and nutrients. If you are overweight, you may find that losing a few kilos is all it takes to improve fertility. Fertility Matters can you achieve your ideal weight.
Herbal Medicine
Herbal medicine has a long history of use in supporting both male and female reproductive health. As a herbal medicine specialist, I use herbs from Western Herbal Medicine (English), Traditional Chinese Medicine and Ayurvedic Medicine (Indian). I commonly use herbal medicine to improve vitality, improve hormone balance or regulate the menstrual cycle. My priority is to provide clients with evidence based herbal medicine that is safe during pre-conception and early pregnancy; and compatible with IVF or other prescribed medications. The herbal medicine that I prescribe is in either liquid or tablet form.
Natural Fertility Management
If you are trying to conceive naturally, I can also help you monitor your cycle in order to pin point the most fertile times for conception attempts. There are several methods that can help us detect when ovulation is taking place.
Clinic location
Having rented commercial premises on busy Logan Rd for five years, I am now practicing from my home in Mansfield. This is in a quiet area, off Creek Rd, close to Fitness First at Carindale. Health Fund Rebates and EFTPOS are available, including HICAPS (for applicable health funds only). Please contact me to make an appointment that suits your needs.
Testimonials
"We decided to see Jenny after having a miscarriage 2 years earlier. It had taken 8 months to fall pregnant before the miscarriage. We had seen a Gynaecologist/Obstetrician and had all the relevant tests and investigations to try to find out why I hadn't fallen pregnant. No medical reason was found - the results were all normal for my husband and I. We were told to "relax" and it would happen in time. However, we were both in our early thirties and didn't want to wait too much longer for our first child. For personal reasons we didn't want to consider IVF. We wanted to keep things "natural" so Jenny was our last hope. Some days the herbal mixture was hard to swallow but I found I had so much more energy! It was all definitely worth it as within 6 weeks I was pregnant! I thought it would take 6 months or longer to fall. We were over the moon! I had a trouble - free pregnancy and gave birth to a beautiful healthy baby girl. She is our little ray of sunshine! We are so thankful to Jenny because without her help we wouldn't have our beautiful daughter. Thank you Jenny!!! "

"After trying unsuccessfully for 6 years to have a baby, with numerous IVF attempts and two miscarriages we were finally referred to Jenny Mitchell. I had seen four other naturopaths over the years prior to Jenny and must admit I did think - "Well what can Jenny offer that I haven't tried before?" Right from the start I was impressed with her knowledge of assisted reproduction. After an extensive consultation we devised a plan and set off. Jenny was happy to work with my doctor who was also happy to work with her. I have to admit there were days that I thought it would never happen but Jenny was always there to support me and give me confidence in her uniquely cheerful manner. To cut a long story short, 3 months after starting Jenny's program I found myself pregnant. I am now nearing the end of my second trimester and still enjoy Jenny's support and encouragement."
