Food is not good or bad. It’s just food. Is some food more healthful than others?
Of course, but you don’t need me to tell you that do you? (I assume that most of you know an apple is more healthful than a cheeseburger…).
Now depending on the state of your health there are good and bad times to eat certain foods (so there may be times when eating a cheeseburger is not a great idea) but achieving optimal health or weight loss is not about categorising food into good and bad, it’s about eating to suit your body, your goals and your life.
That's what food body mind is all about. Eating food, moving your body and getting your mind right about doing both of those things in a healthy and sustainable way.
Sometimes that involves eating pizza in bed and there is nothing more to be said about that.

I want my clients to experience optimal health and I believe that mastering food, body and mind is critical to achieving this.
We live in a society where we are bombarded with messages about diet and health: Paleo, Atkins, South Beach, Low GI, the Zone, the Dukan Diet, Low Carbs; No Carbs; Carbs – but not after 5pm, No sugar, No refined foods, Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, the Biggest Loser, Tony Ferguson, Body Trim, the DASH Diet, the Ornish Diet, Raw Food Diet, TLC Diet, Slim Fast, Nutrisystem, Medifast, Michael Pollen’s Whole Foods, Volumetrics, the Mediterranean Diet, Intuitive eating, Intermittent fasting, Eat Right for your Type….it’s exhausting. The truth is some of these plans are OK - for some people, some of the time. This pretty much captures my philosophy on nutrition. It just depends.
My approach to helping you achieve your goals is to firstly understand who you are. It is my belief that the way we eat, or should eat, is dependent on a number of things: genetics, lifestyle, stress, health (or lack thereof) and where we are in life.
When it comes to losing weight for instance, some people need only to master the physiology and to be educated about energy intake, exercise, stress and adequate sleep to obtain great results. For others, the key to success lies in their psychology and it is the belief that these people hold about themselves that often prevents them from obtaining or maintaining results.
The same principle holds true when it comes to matters of health. From psoriasis to thyroid disease, understanding who you are is fundamental to making recommendations that will work in your life.
The first step, as always, starts with you.
