SERVICES
A podiatrist is a health professional who deals with the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of medical and surgical conditions of the feet and lower limbs. The conditions podiatrists treat include those resulting from bone and joint disorders such as arthritis and soft-tissue and muscular pathologies as well as neurological and circulatory diseases. Podiatrists also diagnose and treat many complications of the lower limb.
Every patient that attends the Total Foot and Ankle Clinic undergoes a lower limb biomechanical assessment, that helps paint a picture of the lower limb structures, muscles and possible potential problems that may occur in the near future, i.e Arthritis etc
Most Common condition seen in the Clinic is Heel Pain.
Heel Spur Syndrome or Plantar fasciitis is a common condition that affects the heel and arch area of the feet. It is caused by the plantar structures of the feet being over stretched resulting in tearing, inflammation and pain around the heel and arch area of the foot.
Signs and Symptoms:
* Pain in the heel and arch area
* Pain when getting out of bed in the morning or after prolonged sitting
* Heel spur development (seen on x-ray)
* Pain on exercise (running and prolonged walking)
* Pain on palpation in the heel and arch area (heel feels tender)
Treatment - The most effective treatment is Orthotic therapy. Orthotics are used to re-align the foot and relieve the plantar structures from excessive stretching giving them the ability to heal. Orthotics are made at the Total Foot and Ankle Clinic.
