Studio Pilates
Would you like an individual Pilates programme in our Studio, closely supervised by a Physiotherapist? Our Studio Pilates sessions use the large Pilates apparatus - the Reformer, Trapeze Table and Wunda Chair. These classes allow you to learn and work at your own pace, with lots of individual attention ensuring that you learn the Pilates technique correctly from the beginning. Studio Pilates is suitable for rehabilitation, pain management, posture correction and injury prevention.
Before commencing the classes participants first attend a comprehensive individual assessment., where we work out your strengths and weaknesses as well as your goals. This is followed by at least one 40 minute training session, where we start you on your individual programme and show you how to use the equipment safely. You are then ready to start the Studio Classes.
A maximum of 4 participants then attend together for a one hour circuit class, fully supervised by a Physiotherapist. These classes are run in blocks of 5 and are claimable through Private Health Insurance if considered medically necessary.

Floor Classes - Clinical Pilates
Are you looking for a safe, enjoyable and economical way to restore pain-free fitness?
The Level 1 Floor Pilates classes are a great introduction to the Pilates technique. With only 8 to 14 people in a class and a relaxed informal atmosphere, all classes are run by an experienced Pilates Physiotherapist. More than just an exercise class, these classes are a learning experience, teaching you more about how your body moves and functions.
The Level 1 classes are easy and relaxing as well as being safe most people including those with an existing pain or movement problem. Individual assessment is recommended prior to commencing.
The Level 2 classes introduces Clinical Pilates exercises on a fitball. The unstable surface helps activate your core muscles. Resistance bands and your own body weight are used to get you working harder. Level 2 helps further improve your strength and balance as well as teaching you some great new stretches.
Level 3 is for those who already have a high level of fitness and / or training in the Pilates technique. More challenging fitball exercises keep you improving your core strength and muscle endurance, while further developing your coordination and balance.

Floor Classes - Feldenkrais
The Feldenkrais classes are also run in school terms and are suitable for almost all levels of ability.
These classes help people overcome the posture, movement and muscular habits that contribute to ongoing or recurring cycles of pain and tension. They are very relaxing and helpful for improving flexibility, posture and body awareness.
Feldenkrais is not about exercise or therapy. It is actually about learning. By incorporating an awareness of how all parts of the body can move in a more synchronised way, participants can discover greater flexibility and range of movement without having to stretch.
Even in the course of a single lesson participants have reported greater power without the need for strengthening, simply by finding a more efficient way to move.

MORE ABOUT PILATES
Pilates is a system of body conditioning, with a focus on flexibility and strengthening of the core stabilising (postural) muscles.
Clinical Pilates is form of Pilates developed by Physiotherapists as a method of rehabilitation. The exercises have been modified to make them safer and more therapeutic. Certain exercises have been eliminated, due to the risk of injuries, which have been reported with conventional Pilates.
Current research confirms what Joseph Pilates was teaching – that there is a relationship between weakness of the deep postural muscles and back pain.
Many Physiotherapists have found that retraining and strengthening of the deep or ‘core’ stabilising muscles is essential in helping a client with back pain return to optimal function.
In Clinical Pilates, exercises are carefully progressed. Resistance is only increased once a client is performing an exercise with the correct technique at a particular level. In this way, participants gradually improve concentration, coordination and body awareness.
MORE ABOUT THE FELDENKRAIS METHOD
The Feldenkrais Method is named after its inventor, Dr Moshe Feldenkrais, Israeli judo master, internationally renowned physicist and educator.
By exploring exactly how we move, and then expanding our movement repertoire we not only enhance the quality of our movement, but open up all sorts of new possibilities, some of them delightful and unexpected.
This method changes the way your brain organises movement and posture, helping you to become more aware of your habits as you discover new and more comfortable options.
This unique and ingenious approach to human movement, development and learning has become popular with pain sufferers, physiotherapists, yoga teachers, body workers, sports people, dancers and performing artists. Because it helps improve the quality of movement it is equally useful for those with pain and movement difficulties and those whose work relies on skillful movement.
Feldenkrais Practitioners have participated in at least 4 years of professional training. The method is taught in two different ways: Individual lessons (called Functional Integration) and Group lessons (called Awareness Through Movement). Many Feldenkrais Practitioners are also qualified in another field, such as physiotherapy, dance or medicine.
