Acupuncture
Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese Medical technique where very fine needles are inserted into carefully selected points on the body. Acupuncture theory views the body as an intricate network of energy channels that link every part of the body. The state of energy in these channels is constantly changing, and these changes are reflected in our physical, mental and emotional condition. In health, the energy in the channels is relatively balanced, while disruptions to the flow and balance of energy can manifest as pain or illness. The objective of any Acupuncture treatment is to restore the channels, and the body, to an optimum state of balance and health. An effective Acupuncture treatment relies on a thorough diagnosis. A detailed case history is taken to give a clear indication of the patient’s condition. This includes information about current symptoms, lifestyle, diet, family medical history, and inspection of the tongue and pulse. Acupuncture points are then chosen to restore the channel system to its natural state of balance. Needles are inserted into these points and retained for approximately 20 minutes. Patient comfort is a priority, and most people find it very easy to relax during a treatment.

Glendon has been practising as a Remedial Massage therapist in Sydney physiotherapy clinics since 1998. Acupuncture for Induction
"Having endured a hospital induction with my first child - and hating every minute of it - I was desperate to avoid the same with my second child. As my due date arrived (and passed) a friend recommended Glendon at Pure Botannicals for acupuncture as it worked so effectively for her overdue child.
Glendon was fantastic, very calming and thorough and very understanding. My acupuncture treatment was at midday on the Saturday and straight away afterward I felt pre-labour commence and the head move down into my pelvis. That evening and the next morning my husband burned moxa above the acu-presssure points on my toes just as Glendon had instructed. We were in labour that night, and after a quick 2 hour labour our baby boy arrived quickly and easily without any drugs. I was so thrilled - it all happened just as I had hoped and I have no doubt at all that it was the acupuncture and moxa that gently nudged things along. I could not recommend Glendon more highly".
Acupuncture for Irritable Bowel Syndrome
"Having moved over from the UK and left behind my much loved acupuncturist, I was nervous to find someone who would be able to fill her shoes! Fortunately Glendon did just that by asking me questions and listening carefully to the information I gave, he was able to get my treatments right from the start. The main reason for my acupuncture was ongoing problems with my stomach (IBS), causing my body to be sluggish in processing and draining me of energy. The acupuncture sessions were not only fantastic at resolving the specific problem, but could also deal with other things I had going on at the time. Sometimes I needed more energy, other times I needed help to unwind and switch off. It's so easy in our busy life to overlook ourself, but just an hour session would leave me refreshed, positive and ready to face anything the world threw my way. I also saw Glendon throughout my pregnancy, which especially helped through the early stages of nausea and tiredness, so much so, no-one at work had an inkling I was pregnant when I told them at 20 weeks! I'd definitely recommend Glendon to everyone who wants to feel better through acupuncture! Thanks for your support and look forward to my next treatment!"
Acupuncture for Anxiety
"Four years ago I had a nervous breakdown brought on by high levels of stress, over-work, exhaustion and insomnia. The breakdown involved severe paralysing panic attacks that would strike without warning several times a day and even during the night when I had finally managed to get to sleep. When this started I took some time off work, started counselling and made some big lifestyle changes, which all helped. I was also prescribed some strong anti-anxiety psychiatric medication on a pretty high dose which was really the key thing that finally stopped the panic attacks. However, the symptoms still lurked in the background – heart palpitations, breathing difficulties, dizziness, sweating palms and feet, nausea, diarrhoea and difficulty getting and staying asleep. I basically needed to do a wide range of things every day to stop the panic attacks from happening including the medication, yoga, cardio workouts, herbal treatments, vitamins, aromatherapy as well as frequent counselling, breathing exercises and regulating my sleep. Even so, occasionally there were days where it just didn’t really work and I would have to take Valium to calm down. I also often had to take sleeping pills to ensure that I got enough sleep. Essentially my whole life revolved around making sure I did not experience panic attacks each day. Three years later I had become much more well. However, each day I was still preoccupied with preventing the onset of symptoms. Even though they had lessened a lot, they still hadn’t gone away completely. What was also becoming a concern was that by now I had been on these powerful anti-anxiety drugs for three years and even my GP was saying it was time to start coming off them. The thought of doing this was pretty troubling though because many people report having an awful time coming off them and that the withdrawal itself causes panic attacks. They’d played a big part in me getting better so of course I was worried that I’d just go back to the way things were before I started taking them. A few friends (including ones that had also had nervous breakdowns and panic disorders) had recommended acupuncture to me. I went and saw Glendon even though I was actually a bit freaked out about having to lie still with needles in me for any length of time. Glendon was very thorough in discussing my condition and understood what my aims were (to get off the medication and prevent the onset of symptoms). He said it would take a few goes of treatment with acupuncture before I started feeling the benefits, however after the second treatment I noticed an immediate sense of relaxation. Over the coming weeks I slept more easily and soundly and in fact barely experienced any symptoms of panic or anxiety at all. Further treatments over the next few months (about once every two or three weeks) virtually erased the symptoms completely. Preventing symptoms of panic moved from the centre of my life to something I thought about less and less. I was able to pull back on many of the other things I’d been doing to keep myself well which was great because some of these things (like cardio workouts) had been dominating my life every day and had been pretty exhausting. After an initial few months of treatment I now see Glendon every two to three months for an acupuncture session. During this time I’ve been able to cut down the dose of anti-anxiety medication. I’ve been taking to one quarter of what I was on six months ago and will be coming off it completely during the next couple of months. I wouldn’t be where I am now without Glendon’s help. There was a time where if I’d been on such a low dose of medication I would have been having six or seven panic attacks a day.
Glendon’s support has been crucial in me reaching my goal of being both medication-free and panic-free. He takes problems of stress, anxiety and mental illness really seriously and I appreciate the time he takes to find out exactly how I’ve been feeling since I last saw him so that he can adjust the treatment to build on the progress since the last one. It has been amazing to be able to live my life without symptoms of panic or anxiety, and to not even have to worry about them occurring. For a long time I wasn’t sure I would ever be like this again. My life has returned to normal. In fact, at 34, I’m feeling healthier now than I have in my whole life and Glendon has been an essential part of making this happen. I would recommend him without hesitation to anyone, especially if you’re experiencing stress, anxiety, panic attacks or insomnia. In fact I really wish I’d gone to see him much earlier than I did. I probably would have made a lot more progress more quickly if I had. He’s an excellent, responsive practitioner who really is interested in helping you to regain health and stay that way so you can get back to living your life as soon as possible."
