We are a vibrant, friendly clinic bursting full of amazing clients who really want to be and stay healthy. We place an emphasis on high quality care and pride ourselves on tailoring our treatment protocols to a personal and individual basis.
Sometimes one health practitioner may not hold all the answers to your health care needs. It may require a team approach to achieve the best results. Gymea Allied Health is a fusion of experienced health professionals working together to support your health care needs as well as remaining well networked into the main stream medical system.

About the Therapists
Byron Smith
Started over 15 years ago and with 17 000 massages he is one of the most experienced and knowledgeable in practice. His work time is shared between massage here at Gymea, the Illawarra region and teaching massage at TAFE
Career highlights include working at the Sydney 2000 Olympics. He is an avid surfer and triathlete having represented Australia in the past. Byron spends this spare time reading and adding to his collection of old vinyl records.
Valerie Marshall
Valerie has been part of the team at Gymea Massage Centre for ten years now and continues to value her contribution to patient care with all the exceptional therapists at the centre.
Valerie approaches her work with her clients in a holistic and integrated way. Whilst treatment of physical conditions can be the primary focus, empathic care is also given to any emotional and life stresses that impact her client’s total wellbeing. Valerie may also integrate client’s preferences for energetic healing and spiritual beliefs. Her bodywork is matched to client’s preferences and negotiated to suit the treatment outcome. Deep remedial and sports techniques are a regular request. However, gentler lymphatic drainage, rocking (Trager), Aromatherapy massage, Bowen Technique, Polarity and chakra and energy balancing can be the perfect choice where deep relaxation and release are yearned for .
Many have come for massages only to discover through Valerie’s empathic counselling that there is a much broader opportunity for healing. Her life experience and training provide her clients with support and understanding enabling their transformation through some of life’s most difficult challenges.
Valerie and her family have lived in the Sutherland Shire for most of her life. Things that make life special are quality relationships, beautiful food, good wine and a purposeful commitment to learning, growing and walking her path.
Valerie has an easy going caring nature, with a ready smile and quick wit, passionate about her work and compassionate with her clients and colleagues. Some clients have called her “radar fingers” others that she has “magic hands”.
Valerie has a Dip of health science from TAFE and extensive post graduate training.
Susan Folwell
A gifted and talented healer Sue’s list of post graduate studies is extensive to say the least. As Sue says “The learning continues”. Massage has enriched her life with friendships, self discovery and the engaging study of the fabric of human beings.

Home life is simple and revolves around her garden, food and the movies.
