"Healing is not a matter of technique, .... , it is a work of spirit." (Rachel Naomi Remen)

I am an experienced health care professional who started out as a practicing nurse and yoga teacher in the 70's. I understand what it is like to be touched by suffering. Assisting people move from states of dis-ease and suffering towards a state of physical and mental harmony consistent with health and well being is a vocation for me.

HYPNOTHERAPY:

Quite simply this is a means by which old, and damaging, patterns of behavior (having been identified) are altered, re-framed, or just eradicated. It is an amazing AND TRULY EFFECTIVE tool for achieving change in your life.

Please note however that hypnosis does NOT involve any loss of awareness or self control. It is actually a self induced state where, guided by the therapist, you settle into a deeply relaxed state like that of deep sleep - except that you are fully conscious! . In this 'conscious sleep state' patterns of behavior embedded in your sub-conscious can be directly accessed. By altering or eradicating patterns that are harmful you create, and put into effect, SOLUTIONS to your problems - ones that optimize your health and well being. Sound good? Well actually it really is:

Issues such as:

  • weight management
  • smoking
  • management of substance abuse / addictive behaviour
  • anxiety & depression
  • stress management
  • fears & phobias
  • low self esteem and a lack of self confidence
  • deep seated / long standing emotional trauma
  • pain management & the management of physical illness
  • and much much more .................

are all responsive to hypnotherapy. I know I keep saying this but it really works - it IS possible for you to feel better and eliminate the health problems, or other issues, that are troubling you.

Please, don't hesitate - consider the alternative - more of the same. Would it not be better to act now; to take charge of your life? Contacting me for an appointment, or further information, is the first step. Reach out for that truly creative solution to your problem.

    COUNSELLING:

If hypnotherapy is the tool for change counselling is the process of exploration whereby, together, we reach a better understanding of your situation and the forces that are creating it. In so doing we will uncover the best way for you to initiate the change that will allow you to be the healthy & happy person you really want to be. Counselling is also, in itself, an effective tool for therapeutic change.

    YOGA:

Yoga comes in many different 'shapes and sizes', and here in the West the most popular forms tend to be those that deal principally with physical health and well being - particularly in relation to fitness and flexibility. However, good as they are, they only scratch the surface of the potential that yoga offers.

I utilize the teaching of Iyengar in relation to postural alignment, but at the same time advocate, and adopt, the softer, more individualized, approach developed by Shri Krishnamacharya (who was Iyengar's teacher). In bringing participants to a greater awareness and activation of their subtle energy body (think of chakras, acupuncture & meridians here) I draw on the teaching of Swami Satyananda as well as the DRU Yoga tradition. DRU yoga also has the capacity to open one up to a very 'heart centered' emotional state of being that is beautiful to experience. By harmonizing the breath with the performance of asanas a meditative mindset is achieved. The overall effect can be, and often is, quite powerful. And remember; regular practice not only keeps you healthy - it has the capacity to slow down the aging process!

In every class I begin with a gentle warm-up before proceeding to more active asanas. The class is brought to a close with a guided relaxation in the style of Yoga Nidra - the yoga of conscious sleep.

All my classes are suitable for beginners as well as more advanced practitioners - because of the individualized approach that supports variations in capability through modifications to the asanas and/or the use of props.

    Classes:

    Tuesdays from 7pm to 8.30pm
    Wednesdays 7pm to 8pm

    MEDITATION:

I began my journey into meditation during the 1970's with Zen Buddhism - becoming an ordained lay Buddhist under Roshi Kennett, and with the Kashmir Shaivism of Baba Muktananda. Zazen remains an integral part of my spiritual practice and I also remain connected to the meditative yoga of Kashmir Shaivism through Swami Shankarananda ( a disciple of Baba Muktananda). In addition I have studied meditation in the DRU Yoga Tradition. The classes I offer are structured according to the teachings of DRU Yoga - but as a teacher I inevitably draw on all my previous experience in the realms of meditation.

The classes I offer are scheduled in Terms of 8 weeks duration, and are structured to provide a gradual progression into the deeper areas of meditative practice. Every class commences with a gentle exercise routine designed to 'loosen up' and prepare participants for meditation. This is followed by specific breathing exercises that lead one into the meditative state - and seamlessly precede the actual seated meditation itself. The meditation is immediately followed by a period of relaxation in the style of Yoga Nidra - the Yoga of Conscious Sleep.

    Sunday from 5.30pm to 6.30pm
