EMMETT TECHNIQUE
What is the Emmett Technique?
A muscle therapy involving the application of light pressure sequences to various parts of the body and incorporates a gentle physical release of muscle groups. The treatment can be done fully clothed, or may involve removing some outer layers of clothing. Muscle release therapy is used as a gentle alternative to other types of massage therapy and Bowen Therapy.
Effects that some people may experience.
All possible care is taken in your treatment, however, we advise that a small number of clients may experience one or more of the following, as a result of muscle release therapy:- Blood pressure changes which may lead to light headedness, -a strong emotional reaction, loose bowel motions, -pain or tingling sensation. Other possible outcomes of complementary therapies include fainting, headaches, tiredness, menstrual disturbance, nausea/ vomiting, conditions becoming worse before they Improve.
What to do if you do experience any of the above effects?
If you experience any of these symptoms, we ask that you immediately advise your therapist, and, if affected, refrain from driving a motor vehicle or operating other machinery.
BOWTECH - The original Bowen Technique
What it is and how it works
Bowtech, the original Bowen Technique, is a gentle form of body work in which very subtle moves performed over the muscles and connective tissue send messages deep into the body, retrieving cellular memory of a preferred, relaxed, balanced way of wellbeing. Results can be remarkable, even from the first session; often only a few sessions are needed to correct the presenting problem.
There are frequent but very essential pauses throughout the session that allows the body time to respond and begin the healing process. The practitioner can target a specific problem or address the body as a whole.
Unlike many other hands-on therapies, the Bowen Technique does not use forceful manipulation. A unique skill of the Bowen practitioner is “tissue tension sense”, meaning that the practitioners are able to discern stress build-up in muscles and other soft tissue, enabling them to perform specific Bowen moves to assist recovery.
The technique addresses not only the musculoskeletal framework, but also the fascia, nerves and internal organs. The body’s integrated response improves circulation and lymphatic drainage and aids in the assimilation of nutrients and elimination of toxins.
The Bowen Technique can help clients on all levels, Mr. Tom Bowen said that any or every condition could be addressed by this technique.
Can the Bowen Technique help me?
The original Bowen Technique is extremely gentle and is considered appropriate for anyone from pregnant women to newborn babies, the frail and the elderly. It can assist recovery from many conditions, from traumatic injury to chronic illness, depending upon each individual’s capacity to heal. No adverse side effects have been reported.
The technique should be considered for:
- back pain and sciatica
- digestive and bowel problems including lBS
- earache, ear infections and migraines
- fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome
- knee, ankle and foot problems
- menstrual and hormonal irregularities
- neck/shoulder problems incl. frozen shoulder
- groin pain, pelvic tilt and uneven leg length
- respiratory problems and hay fever
- RSI, car pal tunnel syndrome and tennis elbow
- sports and accident injurie
Can I use Other Therapies
A Bowen session initiates a cascade of beneficial changes that continue for several days. Applying other manipulative therapies during this time can interrupt this process and undermine the overall effectiveness of the Bowen work. It is therefore recommended that the client wait a week before commencing any other manual therapy.
What my clients have said ....
Hysterectomy
I am 42 years old and 18 months ago I had a Hysterectomy operation. Even after all this time I felt extremely tender in the area of the operation, so much so that I couldn’t even lie on my stomach and I felt I was always wanting to protect myself in this area.
After having had the Bowen Therapy and especially the moves of coccyx plus the advanced menopause moves twice, I can really feel a difference. The first few days after treatment I felt achy and tender deep within my lover abdomen also tingling mostly first thing in the morning around this area, around my buttocks and down my legs. I felt a lot of discomfort for five days and I kept telling myself that things usually get worse before they improve and to be patient. On the 5th day after treatment all discomfort disappeared and it felt good — something deep inside, which had needed healing had released and now I feel I can move on from that experience which was keeping me from feeling as well as I do now in that department.
Now it’s time to get the rest of my complaints put in order, one step at a time.

Dear Mary,
Since first receiving Bowen treatment I have experienced changes in the suppleness and strength of my lower legs, mainly when squatting. Before my treatment I couldn’t stay in that position for more than a minute or two. Now with continual application of Bowen therapy I can stay in the squat position and can move up and down more readily, plus I’m more agile in my movement.
As I write to explain this I thought that my difficulties in movement was because of middle-age. However, I now realise that these things are not inevitable and can be treated. The positives I see through this method of gentle manipulation has made me see that age is no barrier and that seeking professional treatment has made a big difference.
Furthermore I have also seen changes for the better in my eyesight and hearing. After you performed the head drain move on me I have experienced positive changes in my sinuses. During church I have had difficulty seeing the overhead projections, however after a time of treatment my eyesight has improved and I can now see these. My hearing has also become better and I feel that I have experienced a change in pressure.
As a Christian God leads you to people to do his work and bless you.

Electricians last hope
Back in July 09 I hurt my back at work - doctors diagnoses was bulging disc treatment - chiro - physio - dry needling - osteopathy -- nothing relieved the pain.
Then a friend suggested trying Bowen/Emmett therapy. As I was facing the possibility of back surgery, I was willing to try anything, by now 5 months had passed and my emotional state was depleting as at the age of 25 the thought of having to live the rest of my life in severe pain in everything I chose to do was a real possibility - I was a keen surfer, swimmer, lift guard, jogger and cyclist all of which I would no longer do.
Around christmas time I started having bowen treatment once a week, then every two weeks, by july i was back to work, and continue to have regular bowen treatment as I never ever want to go back to were I was.
The treatment releases the muscle tension, encouraging healing. Before i get my regular “top-up” I can feel my body needs a treatment and that I’m out of line; after a session i feel my body corrects itself for a period of time and I can feel a click or crack in different areas allowing adjustment to take place.
The treatment is extremely gentle and non invasive . The only thing that relieved my pain was Mary’s unique treatment. I really look forward to each session.
