Custom made Orthotics and Stabilisers now in Hoppers Crossing, Pt Cook and Werribee
Discover Results you never thought possible
Since 1952, the Foot Levelers laboratory have been developing a range of Spinal Pelvic Stabilisers to suit every situation. Each Stabiliser is custom-made to support all three arches of the foot creating a balanced foundation. That means that no matter which Stabiliser you choose, you can get optimal results to satisfy you and your patients.
Patients with certain types of spinal problems benefit from custom made orthotic support (SPS Stabilizers, Shoethotics®, or Sandalthotics®). These devices stabilize the foundation of the pelvis and spine by first addressing structural problems with the feet, thereby reducing abnormal forces and stresses, while enhancing structural and functional relationships.
Understanding Human Biomechanics:
The joints and muscles of the body function most efficiently when they are in physical balance. Principles of engineering have shown that with any physical entity, whether it is a bridge, a building, or the human body— Structure dictates function.
The body is a biomechanical kinetic chain where abnormal movements at one line, or joint, can interfere with proper movements at other joints.
During standing and walking, our bodies are subjected to natural forces and postures that can inflict mechanical stress and strain throughout the interrelated chain of joints and muscles.
When foot imbalance is present, there is a negative impact on the knees, hips, pelvis, and spine. Some patients must have these abnormal forces reduced before they can achieve improved spinal function.

Understanding Pronation:
Pronation describes the rotation of a body part downward or inward. It is actually a normal motion that occurs when walking; however, if it happens excessively, pronation can cause global postural problems. The major cause of over-pronation is a decrease in the arch height.
Postural Effects from Imbalances in the Feet:
A loss of arch height will cause a flattening and rolling in of the foot— this is termed pronation. Because everything is connected, the bones of the leg also inwardly rotate.
Excessive rotation of the bones of the leg (tibia and femur) will cause unnecessary stresses on the knee as well as twisting of the pelvis and spine. If the pronation is more prevalent on one side, there can be a resultant unleveling of the pelvis and a functional scoliosis.
Tilting of the pelvis places tension on muscles and connective tissues, which can eventually lead to chronic back problems.
High levels of heel-strike shock can result from breakdown of the body’s natural “shock absorbers.” The shock wave then transmits up the kinetic chain causing painful symptoms all the way up to the head, slowed recovery of leg and spine injuries, and aggravation of other conditions.

Benefits of Spinal Pelvic Stabilizers:
Properly fitted Spinal Pelvic Stabilizers support the foot to control excessive and unwanted pronation and supination. This helps to reduce unwanted stress on the body.
Improved shock absorption reduces repetitive stress on joints and muscles, permitting smoother function and decreasing arthritic symptoms.
Use of Spinal Pelvic Stabilizers represents a long-term, yet cost-effective intervention for many types of functional and structural problems.

How Spinal Pelvic Stabilizers Work:
Wearing Spinal Pelvic Stabilizers inside your shoes is similar to placing a shim beneath the leg of a wobbly table: it adds support to eliminate unwanted motion in the entire structure.
The foot is formed of three distinct arches, which create an architectural vault. The result of supporting these three arches is improved stability and postural integrity.
Flexible Spinal Pelvic Stabilizers encourage optimal muscle and nerve function by guiding the feet through a more normal pattern with each step taken.

About Foot Levelers’ Spinal Pelvic Stabilizer (SPS) Orthotics:
Foot Levelers, Inc., a leading supplier for 50 years, creates custom-made, flexible Spinal Pelvic Stabilizers to match each patient’s unique needs.
Using weightbearing impression images of the feet in the position of function (either from a foam casting kit or a digital scanning system), along with instructions from the healthcare professional,
Skilled laboratory technicians create unique Spinal Pelvic Stabilizers designed to correct and support areas of weakness.
The combination of flexible, yet supportive and durable construction materials ensure that the stabilizers will both guide the feet when walking and provide support during long periods of standing.
Unlike other stabilizing technologies, which use rigid materials to force the feet into a theoretical “ideal” position and may result in muscle atrophy and abnormal nerve proprioception, Foot Levelers’ allow controlled, supported movement for the dynamic human body.
Why Do I Need Stabilisers?
Most people with foot imbalances experience little or no pain in their feet. Instead, the pain is transferred to other areas of your body. Your feet are the foundation of your entire body, and having proper posture is the best way to support your body. If you have weakness or unstable positioning in either foot, it can contribute to knee pain, foot pain, back pain or neck pain.
By balancing your feet, Stabilisers help improve your posture, enhance your body’s performance and efficiency, reduce pain, and contribute to your total body wellness.
If you wish to get a free foot scan to see the shape of your feet, just phone our clinic on 9748 6666 and one of the doctors will be able to do the scan and then discuss whether they will suit your problem.
Also available at our clinic are the new "Equilibrium" thongs, which look exactly like normal quality thongs but have inbuilt arch supports which are superior to the normal orthotic thongs.

Joanne has been drawn to healthcare since childhood. Having experiences benefits from Oriental Medicine herself Joanne was drawn to study acupuncture.
Acupuncture is an ancient therapeutic tool which has been used for hundreds of years to restore balance in the body.
Joanne focuses on enablind the body to create more energy so it can function more efficiently. Joanne believes in the importance of vitality and the profoundly positive effect it makes to everyday life.
Put the energy back into your life and book an Acupuncture appointment with Joanne.
Acupuncture can also be used in the management of Sports Injuries, Neck and Back Pain, Sciatica, Rotator Cuff Injuries, Knee and Ankle injuries, Shin Splints, Achilles Tendonitis, Tennis and Golfers Elbow, Headache and Migraine, Disc protrusion and many other conditions. Most health insurance funds cover Acupuncture treatment.
As far as sporting and musculo-skeletal injuries go the main type of acupuncture involves the use of dry needling.
Dry Needling, is often used in the treatment of myofascial pain. It involves inserting an acupuncture needle into a trigger point (an area of contracted knots) to release the muscle. Dry Needling treatment can also assist with pain relief and stimulate a natural healing effect. Dry needling works only on muscles and trigger points where acupuncture is used to balance the energy in the whole body.
Acupuncture using dry needling involves inserting the needle into specific points in the body and leaving them for a period of 10-20 minutes. This form of treatment stimulates an increase in blood flow to the area being treated and the release of your body’s natural anti inflammatory and pain relieving substances.
Acupuncture has been an essential part of medicine for thousands of years in the East, yet even as it catches on in the West, physicians in this part of the world have yet to figure out exactly how this ancient technique works. Whatever the mechanisms, acupuncture does appear to work. Scientific studies are offering real evidence that it can ease pain and treat ailments ranging from osteoarthritis to migraine headaches.
The technique of acupuncture involves placing hair-thin needles in various pressure points (called acupoints) throughout the body. Stimulating these points is believed to promote the body's natural healing capabilities and enhance its function.
Moxibustion is another treatment option in the practice of Oriental Medicine. It is a heat therapy using the herb Mugworth over the meridians and acupuncture points. It can provide relief for many conditions including: Rheumatic pain, numbness and paralysis, vomiting diarrhoea, menstrual cramps and excessive bleeding, impotence, prolapse and colds.
Two very different theories exist as to how acupuncture works. According to Chinese philosophy, the body contains two opposing forces: yin and yang. When these forces are in balance, the body is healthy. Energy, called "qi" (pronounced "chee"), flows like rivers along pathways, or meridians, throughout the body. This constant flow of energy keeps the yin and yang balanced. However, the flow of energy can sometimes be blocked, like water getting stuck behind a dam. A disruption in the flow of energy can lead to illness.
Approximately 2,000 different acupuncture points lie along the body's meridians. The idea behind acupuncture is that stimulating these points with acupuncture needles or pressure relieves obstructions in the flow of energy, enabling the body to heal.
In the Western view, acupuncture likely works by stimulating the central nervous system (the brain and spinal cord) to release chemicals called neurotransmitters and hormones. These chemicals dull pain, boost the immune system and regulate various body functions.
NATUROPATH
Chantal Oxley Member ANTA
About Chantal
Chantal Oxley is a qualified Naturopath, she completed her Bachelor of Health Sciences in Naturopathy at the Australian College of Natural Medicine (now Endeavour College). Chantal has worked within the natural medicine industry for many years. Chantal is a registered full member of the National Herbalists Aassociation of Australia (NHAA) and adheres to the code of ethics that they advocate.
Bio Impedance Analysis
Chantal uses the Tanita Bio Impedance Analysis (BIA) monitor, this measures the following:
Body fat % – Too much or not enough fat?
Segmental Body Fat % Measurement of each arm, each leg and trunk area
Body Fat Healthy Range Indicators for Adults & Children Age 5+
Visceral Fat Rating Visceral fat surrounds the internal organs in the stomach/trunk area of your body. Ensuring you have healthy levels of visceral fat reduces the risk of certain diseases such as heart disease and high blood pressure and delays the onset of type 2 diabetes. Monitoring your results can help you adjust your lifestyle to stay in the low risk range.
Total body water % – Are you drinking enough water? (Almost all people who live to a hundred report drinking a lot of water)
Bone mass Indicates the weight of bone mineral in the body. The development of muscle tissue has been shown to encourage stronger, healthier bones. It is important to develop and maintain healthy bones through plenty of exercise along with a range of bone building nutrients.
Basal Metabolic Rate Indicates the number of calories your body burns when at rest. Unlike other methods of calculating BMR, InnerScan takes the amount of muscle in your body into account, giving a more accurate picture of your dietary requirements. Your BMR will tend to decrease as you get older - you can help prevent this through a regular routine of cardiovascular exercise and increased activity.
Metabolism Age Your BMR starts to decrease after the age of 17 and the metabolic age rating indicates what age level your body is currently rated at. Aim to keep young!
Muscle Mass Calculates the weight of muscle in your body. Do you have too much or not enough muscle?
Segmental Muscle Mass Measurement of each arm, each leg and trunk area
Physique Rating Describes your overall physique or body shape by examining the balance between the amounts of body fat and muscle in your body.
Athlete Mode For people who do more than 10 hours a week intense exercise and who have a resting heart rate of fewer than 60 beats per minute.
How does the monitor work?
The user stands on four footplates on the platform of the scale and holds the hand electrodes that are conveniently housed in the base using retractable connecting cables. The monitor will then send a safe low dual frequency electrical signal from the 8 hand and footplate electrodes through the body.
The results of the measurements (known as Bio-electrical Impedance Analysis or BIA) are then fed into a very advanced computer within the monitor which then provides accurate and personalised body composition readings.
This method enables the user to obtain more in-depth information regarding their body composition such as muscle mass, fat mass, visceral (abdominal) fat level, bone mass, metabolic rate and physique rating.
