Bowen Therapy
A completely new concept in bodywork, it is neither derived from, nor similar to any other physical modality. Bowen Therapy is a gentle, non-invasive form of bodywork, using a series of moves on specific points of the muscle and connective tissue along the whole of the body. In between moves, short breaks are observed. This allows the area to re-hydrate and loosen. Tension and congestion is relieved, which consequently results in elimination of toxins, thereby improving circulation, lymphatic drainage and the absorption of nutrients.
The dynamic action of Bowen moves gently sets the body to heal itself, restoring fluidity and mobility to joints, releasing muscle spasms and trapped energy. The technique assists removal of lactic acid that accumulates in muscle tissue. This causes muscle stiffness throughout the body, which puts abnormal pressure on nerves, blood and lymph vessels, that affect both skeletal systems and internal organ functioning. People often report “feeling” the energy release and flow and experience a state of deep relaxation.
Jin Shin Jyutsu
Jin Shin Jyutsu® is an ancient oriental art of harmonising life energy within the body. The teachings of Jin Shin Jyutsu embody all aspects of our being—body, mind and spirit. The name Jin Shin Jyutsu translates as “The Art of the Creator through the person of Compassion.” The immense scope of knowledge that encompasses Jin Shin Jyutsu is very extensive in both its origin and application. It weaves together philosophy, psychology, physiology, language, five element and meridian theory, the five senses, numerology, astrology, tarot, colours and musical notes.
Emmett Technique
This unique neuro-musclular release technique was developed by Ross Emmett from Townsville, Queensland and is now taught throughout the world. The treatment can be applied fully clothed and incorporates a gentle physical release of muscle groups. Although the treatment is mostly done whilst lying on a massage table, it is very accommodating and may be done in a standing or sitting position where necessary.
The Emmett Technique involves the application of light pressure at specific points, in sequences. This enables the gentle physical release of muscle groups, unlocking muscle memory. This activation gives the brain the opportunity to re-evaluate the initial activator that created the neuro-muscular problem. The moves are used to de-sensitise these areas to give fast, effective results.
The technique can be used as an effective adjunct to enhance the treatment outcome of Bowen Therapy or other types of muscle release and neuro-musculoskeletal therapy. It may also be used on its own as a very effective therapy.
Reflexology
Like many healing arts, reflexology has its origins dating back to ancient cultures. The body was treated as a whole and the feet offered vital clues to the person’s state of health. The entire portrait of the body can be seen true to scale in the feet.
Working the feet triggers a reflex action in a corresponding part of the body. This stimulation of the zone assists in decreasing tension, reducing vascular constriction and allowing a better flow of oxygen and nutrients to all organs of the body. People experience a sense of wellbeing at all levels as pathways are opened up and energy flows. Free flowing energy helps the body regain its natural balance, harmony and health. Rejuvenation and revitalisation can be experienced immediately. The body is encouraged to return to its natural rhythms and healing has a perfect opportunity to take place.
Inducing deep relaxation, it is fantastic for stress, anxiety and sleep problems. It also improves circulation, releases toxins, boosts immune system and restores mental alertness.
Ear Candling
An ancient and natural therapy, ear candling was traditionally handed down by many civilizations. Ear candling has been used traditionally by Shaman healers for initiation rituals and healing ceremonies. Their historic roots are to be found in Asia and can be traced back to the Indians of North and South America. The candles are still traditionally made using techniques of the Hopi indian people. They were very spiritual and had great medicinal knowledge and were responsible for bringing to the modern world with the professional involvement of BIOSUN.
In the relaxed atmosphere of the clinic, you will be asked to lay down on your side in a comfortable position with your head on a pillow. A light cover will be placed around the head, face and ear region. The ear candle will be lit and the non-burning end will be gently placed into the outer ear passage with a light turning movement. The ear candles work by creating a chimney effect so that a vibration of the rising air column through the natural movement of the flame serve to gently massage the ear drum. You may want to keep your eyes closed to enhance the experience as you hear a pleasant crackling, hissing sensation as the candle burns down. Whilst the candle is burning, there is a pleasant sensation of warmth which users describe as soothing and relaxing. The candle will be supported in a vertical position in your ear throughout the burning process which takes about 10 – 12 mins. The candle does not drip wax or drop anything during the burning process. It is good to rest quietly for 10 -15mins at the end of the session to support the overall result.
