Who Is George Dellas (DCM, DN)?

George Dellas (Doctor of traditional Chinese Medicine (DCM) and naturopathy (DN)) is both an experienced clinician having been practicing from his St. Kilda Clinic, In Focus – Healing and Wellness Clinic, since 1986 and as an educator/trainer, having been recognised by RMIT University for his Excellent Good Teaching Scale Score in 2010; being invited to lecture to his peers by AAMT (Australian Association of Massage Therapies) and is a highly respected trainer for MIMT (Melbourne Institute of Massage Therapy) lecturing there for the past 10 years.

George is a person with a wealth of experience, which grew from an innate desire to find something that was safe, efficient, effective and easy to apply in clinical practice to assist people to heal themselves. During his search, he completed studies in over 10 different specialities including traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture, abdominal acupuncture, naturopathy, western herbal medicine, biomesotherapy, Reiki, various massage therapies, homoeopathy, FFT (Functional Fascial Taping), EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique), bio-energetic imprinting, kinesiology and others.

In addition to his studies and operating his successful private practice, George also has over 20 years experience in oriental massage training and is currently the senior coordinator of Oriental massage for the Melbourne Institute of Massage Therapy. However, he has also held positions in other educational settings, being an external examiner at the Southern School of Natural Therapies for their Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (Final Exams) and has been a trainer for the Melbourne College of Natural Medicine in clinical nutrition where he also developed and implemented their Community Education and Public Health training manual.

George has experience in clinical research, having completed a pilot study on the role of acupuncture in Irritable Bowel Syndrome as part of his Masters degree, in addition to being invited to proof read the PhD thesis of the Chinese Medicine Unit head of RMIT University, Dr Charlie Xue. The works detailed a clinical trial of the role of Chinese medicine for Seasonal Allergic Rhinitis.

George was awarded a scholarship by RMIT University for obtaining the best academic results in the Degree of Chinese Medicine. He also achieved the highest overall mark for his clinical internship year in Nanjing, for the same degree. His outstanding academic achievements and extensive training experience inspired the head of the Chinese medicine unit at RMIT to offer George a coordinating / lecturing role in 2005 for the subject Chinese Diet Therapy and in 2010 was recognised by RMIT University for both his teaching excellence and his outstanding contribution to the Chinese medicine profession.

His comprehensive skill set also includes evaluation and consulting, having evaluated specific health issues for Myer-Grace Bros Melbourne, the Arthritis Foundation of Victoria and the Australian Greek Welfare Society; which included development of project brief and evaluation criteria, project management, execution of evaluation and presentation of outcomes and recommendations.

George has participated in voluntary work having been a public representative on the Steering Committee for the City of Caulfield’s Municipal Public Health Plan and discussed health issues from a complementary medicine perspective on Southern FM Community Radio.

Although George's collection of qualifications grew and he excelled in his career and clinical practice, he was no closer to satisfying this innate feeling that motivated him do all this study in the first place. Instead, it created a problem that began to manifest; having gained so many skills which of these areas would he start with for his clients? All are valid therapies within their own right, yet not all were appropriate for his clients. This created a new challenge for him, that is, until his path crossed with an old friend from university, Dr Rhett Ogston (DCM).

Dr Rhett (DCM) then introduced George to a revolutionary personal development & healing system that his innate was calling out for (unbeknown to George, Rhett had spent the best part of a decade researching and developing this system) and had only a few months before began teaching it to some amazed clients who had demanded to be taught what Rhett knew after experiencing some truly amazing results.

The system that Dr Rhett (DCM) has developed is a state-of-the-art bio-energetic personal development & healing system called FlameTree: the personal development and healing system and it was everything that George had been searching for, and more. George immediately understood the revolutionary nature of FlameTree and became the first certified FlameTree healer in the world in January 2010.

Why did George decide to embrace a system that was developed by an Australian that very few people outside of Dr Rhett’s own clinic in Brisbane would have ever heard of before? Wasn't he taking a risk, putting his reputation on the line and leaving his prestigious role at RMIT University? Yes, it was a risk! However, he knew deep down that this was it. This innate need he had that kept him looking was now at peace because for the first time in his life he had finally found it, a healing system that was not only safe, efficient, effective and easy to apply, but it also integrated everything that he had learnt over the past 23 years and added so, so much more! His knowledge base exponentially increased after learning FlameTree as did the changes experienced by his clients who receive FlameTree, without having to, in most case, take bagfuls of supplementation. Yes, he found this very amazing also!

Since incorporating FlameTree into his clinical practice it has become George’s foundational system and his client base continues to grow for FlameTree healing through word-of-mouth referrals. This has now created another unforseen challenge for him; keeping up with the demands for his services.

To meet this challenge, George in December 2010 became the first certified instructor of FlameTree in the world. Why? Because he now feels a moral obligation to share this personal development andhealing system with others so that there are more certified FlameTree healers working together to empower others to access their innate ability to develop and heal themselves and to live at their full life’s potential.

All traditional medicine practices, such as traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and western natural therapies (WNT), acknowledge that the human body has its own innate ability to heal itself (the body’s ‘Life Force’) and maintain wellbeing given the right environment.

Although each traditional medicine practice advocate their own unique assessment methods, (such as using the pulse and tongue in TCM and iridology in WNT), and offer different treatment approaches, (such as Chinese herbs, acupuncture in TCM and western herbs, nutritional supplementation in WNT), their aims are the same; to provide the body with the optimum conditions to support its ‘Life Force’ in overcoming disease states and encouraging wellness.

With over twenty years experience in the well-being profession, and now with FlameTree, George is able to work with you in establishing which pathway is needed to support your body’s ‘Life Force’ based on your current life circumstances. Having such a wealth of information at his fingertips, you truly get more than one practitioner when you work together with George.

FlameTree: the personal development & healing system

FlameTree is our foundational healing system and is highly recommended by Dr. George Dellas (DCM, DN).

In short: FlameTree: the personal development & healing system is a state-of-the-art bio-energetic medicine system, supported by scienctific theories (e.g. unified field theory; quantum physics), that locates and neutralizes charged events (e.g. emotions, memories, thoughts, past life situations, etc.) within a person’s BodyMind Complex that are adversely impacting the natural healing communications of the person’s body, as directed by the client’s innate wisdom.

How does it locate these charged events? FlameTree uses you, your innate wisdom, to answer 'yes' or 'no' through a myocyte tendon reflex following the FlameTree protocol. Through this, we are able to identify what your innate requires and the techniques necessary to assist you release these energetic charges, thereby opening you up to the possibility that you can achieve lasting inner peace, personal development and healing. FlameTree empowers you to access your innate ability to heal yourself.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) & The Three Treasures (TTT)

With a rich history of practice for over 2500 years, TCM views the human body as an organic whole with the acknowledgement of a strong connection between the body, mind and spirit, which integrates with the natural environment as one.

Practitioners of TCM have always considered that well-being and vitality are influenced through the ability to nurture, what is known in TCM terms, as our ‘Three Treasures’, which everyone posses. This includes our Jing, known as our ‘Life Force’; Qi (pronounced Chee), known as our ‘Vital Energy’ and Shen, known as our ‘Mind and Spirit’. It stands to reason why these great TCM practitioners of early years advocated ‘prevention as being better than cure’ and focused their treatments on supporting the body’s ‘Three Treasures’ for any disruption to these ‘Treasures’ results in disharmony and ‘dis-ease’ states.

George recognises the importance of following on with this tradition, as all too often the demands and stresses of life distract us from keeping in touch with nature, leaving little time for us to nurture our ‘Three Treasures’, thereby creating the pathway to disharmony. George’s aim is to guide you in establishing a wellbeing plan that focuses on supporting and nurturing your ‘Three Treasures’ in addition to addressing your specific health conditions.

    Chinese Herbal Medicine

Chinese herbal medicine is based on TCM principles and theories. Chinese herbs are prescribed to both support your Three Treasures and to treat specific disease states. The appropriate herbs are selected once the TCM diagnosis is established.

Traditionally herbs were prepared by boiling them for up to 1 hour, making what is known as a ‘herbal decoction’. Although this is still practiced, George has found that the hectic pace of modern life does not always provide the time to prepare herbs in this way. In order to save time, George prescribes granulated herbal extracts which are easily prepared by adding boiling water to them without compromising on quality and effect. In addition, George also prescribes a range of Chinese herbal pills, tablets and capsules to accommodate those who are challenged by the unique taste of herbal liquid preparations.

    Acupuncture

This is a TCM technique used to support the ‘Three Treasures’ and treat specific conditions. Based on your presenting symptoms, very fine needles are inserted into carefully selected acupoints which are found along the various Meridians in the body.

The great TCM practitioners of the past recognised that it is by virtue of the Meridian System that human life exists. They viewed this system as acting as a pathway for the vital substances of life, that is, Qi and Blood, to circulate throughout every part of the human body, in addition to acting as a means of communication between every cell and body systems.

This ancient art is skilfully applied by George to assist you with various issues ranging from supporting your ‘Three Treasures’ to addressing various pain conditions and certain ‘dis-ease’ states as supported by the World Health Organisation (for more reading go to page 12 of the following PDF file http://whqlibdoc.who.int/publications/2002/9241545437.pdf.

Furthermore, for the treatment of pain conditions, George can offer you electro-acupuncture. This is used to further enhance your body’s own pain relieving chemicals, i.e. endorphins. This method involves passing a low current of electricity through two needles. The comforting sensation generated by this technique effectively reduces pain.

    Abdominal Acupuncture

Like acupuncture, very fine needles are used, however, they are only inserted into the abdominal area with minimal needle stimulation. This technique is based on the theory that the precise needling of certain areas of the abdomen has direct associations with other body parts and internal organs.

The gentle needling method used for this system has the ability to adjust the Qi and Blood flow within the body’s Meridian System. This inturn has an impact on improving internal organ function thereby supporting the ‘Three Treasures’ in addition to being used for reducing pain.

George is one of the very few TCM practitioners in Australia to have gained formal training in this technique from Nanjing, China

    Acupuncture Support For IVF Transfer

Various studies have demonstrated positive outcomes in using acupuncture before and after IVF Transfer. Although it is not clearly understood why these positive outcomes have been observed with acupuncture, it is clear from these clinical studies that acupuncture does not have any adverse effects at the time of transfer (Caroline S. etal Fertility and Sterility Vol. 85, No.5, May 2006)

George is more than happy to discuss with you how he can use acupuncture to support you through this life changing experience.

    Laser Acupuncture

Unlike acupuncture, a low powered Laser unit is used to stimulate selected acupoints to assist in addressing your presenting complaint. Although not a traditional method of acupoint stimulation, George offers this method of acupoint stimulation as a viable option for those shy of the needle.

Cupping (Ba Huo Guan) & Gua Sha

Cupping is a TCM technique whereby suction or a drawing action (Ba) is created over an area of the body by using fire (Huo) and special kind of cups or jars (Guan). The term ‘cupping’ appeared during the Jin Dynasty, around 281 AD and has been used traditionally for various conditions, particularly those associated with muscle pain and for the beginnings of a cold.

As suction is generated with cupping, a skin discolouration may occur. This usually lasts 24 hours. However, in some instances, they can last up to one week or more.

Gua Sha, also referred to as ‘scraping technique’ or ‘spooning’, also originated in China during ancient times. Initially, there was no systematic theoretical foundation in applying Gua Sha, however, as TCM developed so to did the application of this ancient technique.
Like cupping, a skin discolouration can occur after applying Gua Sha, however, it is generated through the action of scraping the skin with a special Gua Sha tool. This technique is used to reduce pain in addition to being able to invigorate the circulation within the Meridian System.

George ensures that you are aware of all the possible outcomes when using either cupping or Gua Sha and his expertise with these techniques goes beyond the clinic to training other therapists in applying these ancient methods within their own clinics.

    Chinese Diet Therapy (CDT)

Chapter 1 of The Yellow Emperor’s Internal Classic clearly states that the ancient Chinese believed that foods are primary needs for all people. It highlights that if one pays sufficient attention to certain laws and methods of CDT, selecting foods according to the body’s needs, then health and energetic vitality will be preserved and life span prolonged.

George is able to assist you in selecting foods to support your ‘Three Treasures’ thereby improving you health and energetic vitality. George’s expertise with CDT is recognised by RMIT University, Melbourne Australia where he is the co-ordinator and lecturer for the subject Chinese Dietary and Exercise Therapy for their Undergraduate program in Chinese Medicine.

    Naturopathy or ‘Nature Cure’

The philosophical foundation of naturopathy dates back thousands of years drawing on the healing wisdom of various countries, particularly Greece and the Hippocratic teachings.

    Naturopathy is based on a system of medicine that advocates prevention and the use of ‘non-toxic natural therapies’ to address disease states being guided by seven general principles;

    1. First, do no harm
    2. Natural has healing powers
    3. Identify and treat the cause
    4. Treat the whole person
    5. The physician as a teacher
    6. Prevention is better than cure
    7. Establish health and wellness

In addition to lifestyle, diet and exercise recommendations, naturopathy uses various therapies to promote health and treat dis-ease states. These include western herbal medicine, clinical nutrition, homotoxicology, Bach flowers, counselling and physical therapies.

These nature cure principles are the guiding force behind George’s treatment approach. George is able to integrate various natural therapies to assist you.

    Western Herbal Medicine

Plants have been used for medicinal purposes since prehistoric times by communities worldwide. This traditional medicinal approach is skilfully applied by George in his clinical practice, applying herbs based on both their pharmacological actions and historical use.

    Clinical Nutrition

George echoes the famous words of Hippocrates; ‘Let food be my medicine and medicine by my food’. The concept of using foods as medicines is obviously not new. There is growing body of scientific knowledge that supports the use of whole foods, as well as specific nutritional supplementation, in the treatment of specific dis-ease states and maintenance of wellbeing.

For example, humble oat bran and oat-based cereals have been supported by scientific studies to lower cholesterol levels and blood pressure within 5 to 6 weeks (Braun L. & Cohen M. Herbs & Natural Supplements - An evidence-based guide 2nd Ed., 2007, Elsevier, Australia).

George incorporates the concepts of clinical nutrition into your treatment plans.

    Homotoxicology

Homotoxicology is a modern advancement in the application of classical homeopathy in the field of biological medicine. It is considered that any noxious influence disturbing the dynamic flow balance of health is defined as a ‘toxin’ or ‘homotoxin’ (meaning toxic to humans). ‘Homotoxins’ may be generated from normal metabolic products that have not been eliminated efficiently from the body or the body is exposed to some form of environmental contaminant, infectious agent and so on.

Nonetheless, once the body encounters a ‘homotoxin’, its innate reaction is to try and eliminate it if possible or adapt to this noxious stimulation if elimination cannot be effectively accomplished.

Homotoxicology interprets the signs and symptoms of ‘dis-ease’ states, such as inflammation, as the body’s attempts to eliminate or detoxify ‘homotoxins’ in order to heal itself. The suppression of this process, although brings about temporary relief, actually results in the accumulation of ‘homotoxins’ within the cell matrix and cellular-organ structures. The end consequence of this ‘homotoxin’ accumulation is the development of chronic degenerative disease states. Thus the application of homotoxicology is to support the body’s innate healing processes of eliminating ‘homotoxins’ in order to prevent chronic degenerative disease states.

Being aware of the importance in maintaining efficient cell matrix elimination, George incorporates this modern use of homeopathy into his treatment approach.

    Biomesotherapy

Biomesotherapy is a therapy which aims to normalize nervous system imbalance, eliminate toxins (homotoxins) and reduce pain. It is based on the ideas of homotoxicology and uses a combination of diluted natural medicines administered orally whilst stimulating specific acupuncture points and/or tender points with a saline solution injected just under the skin.

    Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT

EFT is based on the statement: “The cause of all negative emotion is a disruption in the body’s energy system”. Understanding this concept is fundamental to the application of this technique. The process of ‘unblocking’ this energy disruption results in the elimination of all negative emotions.

This idea parallels that of TCM in that its long been acknowledged in TCM theory that the disruption in the body’s Qi (pronounced Chee) and Blood flow results in disharmony. This disharmony is not only limited to emotional sphere, but also encompasses normal physiological functioning.

Unlike TCM, EFT uses a taping method on specific acupuncture points to assist in improving the energy flow through the Meridian system whilst focusing on the specific negative emotion, in order to restore harmony.

EFT has become a foundation treatment tool in George’s clinical practice as it allows him to assist you to get to the root cause of your emotional and physical disharmony. From George’s clinical experience, once this specific energy block has been cleared, then the other TCM and natural therapies that George practices will work more efficiently.

Like the founder of EFT (Gary Craig), George and the founder of FlameTree, Dr Rhett (DCM) worked together to simplify EFT without the need to tap. As both come from a TCM background, and EFT is based on the meridian system, it makes sense that they could improve on this already efficient technique. And then did... we call it Universal Emotional Freedom Technique (UEFT)

    George’s Physical Therapy Integration

This is based on George’s 20 plus years of experience in working with various physical therapies such as remedial massage, trigger point therapy, superficial dry needling, acupuncture, Bowen technique, Oriental massage, Tui Na, traditional Chinese massage, relaxation massage, Functional Facial Taping (FFT®), cupping and Gua Sha.

George has developed a unique treatment approach by combining these therapies into this treatment plan. The end result is an effective treatment that brings about the reduction in muscular pain, stress and tension.

    Functional Facial Taping (FFT®)

FFT® is a fast and effect way to reduce muscle pain and improve range of motion, offering a drug free alternative to pain modulation. It involves using the concept of ‘digital distraction’ prior to applying tape, by using the ‘gathering’ technique, to a specific body part associated with muscle pain. It’s amazing how instant the analgesic effect can be.

George is an accredited FFT® practitioner by Ron Alexander, the founder of this innovative technique. George’s dedication to the healing arts gives him another technique that he can offer you as part of your treatment plan.

For a sneak preview at what FFT® can do for you, go to www.fft.net.au and watch the online video clips as prepared by Ron Alexander.
