What is Myotherapy?

Myotherapy is derived from the Greek root "myo" meaning muscle.

Muscles, ligaments and tendons are the soft tissues of the body integral to supporting the bony structure of the human skeleton. Soft tissues can be damaged or irritated in accidents, sporting activities, by using incorrect posture, from over-use (repetitive activities) or under-use, disease, or by physical and emotional stress. This damage sometimes presents as a lump or knot in the muscle. Myotherapy aims to restore maximum mobility by correcting and rehabilitating the injury and preventing its recurrence.

Symptoms

When you feel pain that is caused by muscle tissue or muscle fascia (myofascia) this is called myofascial pain. Symptoms can include:
  • Deep and constant aching
  • Muscle tightness
  • Sore spots in the muscle (myofascial trigger points)
  • Stiff joints
  • Numbness
  • Reduced joint mobility
  • Recurrent tingling, prickling or ‘pins and needles’ sensation
  • Unexplained tiredness

Treatments

A myotherapist uses a variety of treatments to improve the integrity of the muscle and other soft tissues. We use the following:
  • Soft tissue manipulation
  • Trigger point therapy
  • Dry needling - applying small needles
  • Stretching
  • Corrective exercises
  • Thermal therapies (heat and cold)
  • TENS machine

Correct treatment and maintenance of trigger points, helps to reduce pain, soreness, tightness, restriction of movement and muscle tension.

Floatation tank - Melbourne. Floatation therapy with sensory deprivation

inner outer health® is an Ivanhoe, Melbourne-based myotherapist, providing treatments for neck and lower back pain, tennis elbow, muscle tightness, sport injuries and restricted movement. Floatation therapy is also known as float tank are a revolutionary tool for pain relief, stress reducation and total relaxation for mind and body.

Did you know that scientists estimate that up to 90% of the brain's normal workload is caused by the effects of routine environmental stimulation and the combined effects of gravity, temperature, touch, light and sound on the muscles, nervous system and sense organs of the body.

What is Floatation Therapy?

The float tank is a light-proof, sound-insulated capsule which contains 30cm of water with 25% saturated Epsom Salts solution - 5 times denser and more buoyant than sea water.

Lying back, you float effortlessly on the surface with all parts of your body firmly supported. Your muscles no longer have to fight against the constant downward push of gravity, the single greatest cause of wear and tear to bones, joints and body tissue. As muscle tension melts away, you will find yourself floating weightless and free, like an astronaut in zero gravity conditions.

While you are floating, your ears are below the surface of the solution, cutting out external sounds. Many people, however, find that gentle ambient music accelerates and intensifies the relaxation process. The Apollo's powerful underwater speaker system creates the feeling that you are floating in a sea of music, enhancing the rich dream-like quality of the experience.

The temperature inside the capsule is kept at a constant 34.5° - relaxed skin temperature. As a result, the nerve endings which cover the surface of the skin no longer perceive any sense of separation between the skin and the silky mineral solution which surrounds it.

The float tank screens out these external physical stimuli, creating a pure state of "sensory" relaxation. Under these unique conditions your body has a chance to restore its natural powers of self regulation, while you simply lie back and rediscover the latent abilities of a deeply relaxed mind.

In the dark, weightless tranquillity of the Apollo float tank, the boundaries of your body seem to dissolve and vanish. As you enter progressively deeper levels of relaxation, even your body seems to "disappear" from conscious awareness because of the sharp reduction in signals being transmitted through the nervous system to the brain.

Free from all external stimulation, your body can achieve a state of relaxation which is deeper, purer and more beneficial than sleep. With no body to look after, your mind can attend to other business.

What does it feel like to relax in a float tank?

Many people compare the experience of being in a floatation tank to how they would imagine it to be in outer space. A feeling of zero gravity, floating, being weightless and being completely separated from the outside world. To fully appreciate what this would feel like for you, why not come and experience it for yourself.

Just imagine your mind is free to drift into the deepest state of relaxation possible and your body will have the chance to restore it's natural powers of self regulation and healing. You will leave your floatation session at Float for Health with a sense of clarity, focus, physical and mental renewal. One hour of floatation therapy rejuvenates your body to the equivalent of four hours of solid sleep.

So if you are feeling tired, stressed, overworked, sleep deprived, experiencing muscle / joint discomfort, just need sometime out to unwind and relax or want to give that perfect gift that will be appreciated long after the service, contact us today and experience for yourself how floatation therapy can give you instant relief beyond belief.
